    I'll contribute a few...
Several years back I was riding my GSXR through town with a friend on the back for a cool evening stress relief ride. We were both having a rough week and she like going for rides every now and then. This was the middle of March in Indiana meaning it was the tail end of snow season and the roads weren't clear of salt/sand. I had ridden year round for the previous 2 years and know when it's ok to ride (ie no snow ice) and when to just dress warm and avoid sand. Unfortunately It was dark with low street light and I had not seen where plow trucks had pushed all the sand into a bus stop pull off lane. We were at a stop light turning right and the easier way to take the turn was cutting though this extra portion of lane. As soon as I saw the inches of sand build up we were already sliding. Couldn't have been going more than 10mph by then but the sudden lowside mixed with a passenger somehow initially trapped me under the bike as it hit the road. I still don't know exactly what caused the injury but my best guess is the foot peg went through my knee digging in. As soon as our boddies stopped sliding (a few seconds) I got up ran to her to make sure she was ok, she was just fine. Then I went over to my bike to assess damage. Nothing serious so I picked it up started it, and we took off towards her house. A few minutes in I noticed my knee feeling colder than the rest of me and knew I probably scuffed my knee up a bit. We went into her house and I saw a tear in my pants so I asked her to get some peroxided and a rag while I cut my pants off to see:

At first I was like crap I might have to get stitches now. After cleaning some of the dirt out (no pain at all) She pointed and said is that your bone? After moving my skin around a little to see I decided I probably needed to go to the ER because I was missing a lot of skin.

    1921197_10152282167099791_1320540299_o.jpg 1618072_10152282167439791_2024016606_o.jpg
She drove me to the ER and I hobbled in. Still no pain but it was stiff so I tried not to bend it. The doctor told me he thought it was a burn and that wasn't his specialty and he wasn't going to do anything. They wrapped it up, not even sterilizing it and told me to make an appointment at the burn center in Indianapolis. I just said okay and went home, looking back I'm pissed how he treated me or lack there of, as it turned out I almost had to get amputated because he didn't give me any antibiotics right away.

2 days later my first appointment a nurse came to see the damage and see how far the wound 'tunneled' that was the first time someone has stuck their finger underneath my skin, also the most pain I experienced throughout this experience. Still no pain meds at this point.

    1913242_10152293215964791_1536449531_o.jpg 10005998_10152293219074791_721455325_o.jpg 10013400_10152285157949791_2141589190_o.jpg 1966199_10152293209669791_1701345938_o.jpg
First surgery: cleaning up the wound. They had to stuff it to keep it clean as you can see in one picture the bump is gause under the skin. There's a spec of bone visible in the last pic, luckily no structural damage. The pen marking was for them to keep track of the infection spreading. They had me on IV antibiotics until my body rejected it. I was told that it had almost reached my bone which was only fixable by amputation. One more day without antibiotics and I'd be missing a leg.

second surgery: they cut out the skin that had been tunneled under because it was beyond saving. Cadaver skin grafted on to begin new tissue growth. They stapled the edges to keep it from moving around.

third surgery: woke up with this sucker (literally) on my knee. They took skin from my thigh spread it with this weird cheese cutter looking device and stapled it on. I wish I had video but even with my begging for videos of the surgery they refused.

After 2 weeks of wound vacuum and knee immobilizer it was time for them to come off and ace wrap it all for the next few weeks cleaning both every day.

very thin layer taken but it burned like crazy all the time. Hurt way more than the knee.

mostly healed up and a custom fit elastic sleeve to keep my new skin firm. Special lotion many times a day. It's been a few years since recovery and it looks mostly the same minus the scabs. I had 8 months of physical therapy to re learn how to walk and I now have no feeling from the top of the wound all the way down my shin because the nerve was severed. Unfortunately the end of the nerve where it was cut is right at the top edge of the knee scar right there on the surface and is super sensitive. When touched it feels like my lower shin is being touched, kinda weird.

No pictures but yesterday my 2 year old daughter was jumping o.k. a bed and banged her head on a wooden foot rail and split her eyebrow open. I could see her skull out went so deep. She cried for about 20minutes and that was it. She got 4 stitches. I was very impressed with how well She did. After the ER visit she was back to playing like it never happened. We goo back in 5 days too get the stitches removed.

I'm just worried about scarring and it affecting her eyebrow hair for when she's older and wants tho wear makeup. Friend of mine recommended a product called NewGel, it reduces scarring.

Senior year we had a fascination with throwing and holding fireworks my buddy decided to get brave and hold the tube that's launched mortars/artillery shells and out of the whole box only one didn't make it out of the tube..... to this day he won't even hold a sparkler.

Dude a guy I play hockey with has a toe thumb!! He accidently chopped it off with an axe when he was a kid chopping firewood. Doctors removed one of his big toes and put it on his hand in place of his thumb, works just like his thumb would. He says he visits hospitals from time to time to talk with patients going through the same kind of surgery, apparently it's pretty common and some hospitals even have sections dedicated to toe-thumb surgery (not what it's really called but yeah, lol).
    Crazy stuff indeed.

I asked the guy who I was working with who had that done and he said he barely notices that his big toe is gone. Says it's way more useful to have his thumb. He said especially when he's wearing shoes because it has a flat surface on the sole it makes it unnoticeable that he doesn't have the toe there

Yeah I was under that impression too before I met this dude on my hockey team, apparently it's a pretty common misconception. He skates and plays hockey just fine without one of his big toes
