I know MeefZah from another thread on this forum. I can say he says what he thinks and doesn't filter his thoughts. That's normal for him so don't take it personally. That being said - your biggest critics CAN be your best ones.

I personally like the first two seasons better than the third as well. Is it nostalgia? Or is it the focus on the off road? I've spent a lot of money on my truck BECAUSE of how season 1, and seeing the 2013 Tacoma IN PERSON, inspired me to want to do the same with my Tacoma. Season 3 doesn't "inspire" me but was still interesting to watch.

I think what MeefZah brings to your table is an opportunity to look at how the advertising fits in currently and what the fan base might want to see between ads (recoveries, obstacles, etc). In an age of DVR no one watches commercials on purpose - except the Super Bowl.

The point is, perhaps MeefZah being so vocal can help create creativity to inspire you guys to make season 4 the best yet - and still retain your sponsors. They want name and product plugs. Fans want adventure. If the two don't mix either the fans or the sponsors leave.

Here's the take away I think you should absorb. MeefZah is being very critical but HE IS WATCHING AGAIN anyhow.
    Think about that. :)

I just watched season 2... Now I need to watch season 1. I stumbled into this on accident looking for ideas for my 4Runner build. There aren't many built 5th gens. I've been using their new 4Runners as a major inspiration but I'm going with Relentless Armor instead of CBI

One of the other overland YouTube series I watch had an ARB sponsored 3rd gen too. It looked pretty sweet with all the ARB stuff hanging off it. Seemed to perform well too.

    I am!!!

I only drop in on the Ohio thread once every so often... not being there anymore makes it kind of pointless for me to keep up on wheeling trips and such.

You are exactly the last person I figured would have been watching for XO updates and new content, but glad you posted :D

I've started a thread dedicated to our 2016 season here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/expedition-overland-mackenzie-trail-2016-on-youtube-soon.454566/

Of course we can hash it out here too :D

Just to summarize my above posts about the last season - I like the show. Shit, I like it enough that I have an XO sticker on my truck and a XO patch on my headliner!

I felt it could have been better in the last season, and I articulated that, but I still liked it, took ideas from it, watched it, forwarded links to friends, and participated in discussion online. In fact, I just rewatched the whole thing - or at least had it playing in the background as I did other stuff and then watched the interesting stuff - a few weeks ago. Just because a person renders some negative commentary doesn't mean they don't appreciate the totality of efforts and enjoy the complete package. To put it another way, I disagree with my wife a lot but I love the shit out of her.

The McKenzie edition looks "better" already, in the sense that it is off road from the get go, it's closer to the US and a more "doable trip" for viewers, so it brings with it a sense of personal possibility.
