2017 TRD PRO, who's waiting?

That's more than a few bud. Honestly for that price and the fact they will keep making these next year likely and so on, your better off buying a lower trim and upgrading, unless your set on cement or having a stock pro. Still beautiful trucks.

Good point....However even so, 2500 this yr....? 2500 next yr and so on, it's still a limited production factory built truck...

 

Did they confirm 2500 somewhere? Seems like Toyota is milking this money train compared to their last run of the Baja's and Pros.

 

Added my gray TRD 17 inch wheels with the BFG tires I took off one of my Jeep Rubicon's. Took factory predator steps off, ordered CBI front receiver hitch(already have a brand new Warn PowerPlant) and the rock sliders. Also ordered the front runner bed rack. Trying to decide which tent to mount on it now.....

 

Not officially, but a member here is friends with someone in allocation at Toyota and laid out the numbers...33% for each color, 125 manuals being made, etc... I never could find hard numbers for the Baja's....made for 3yrs...15 Pro I have seen 1200 or so..

 

I think it's pretty expected to see a much higher percentage of people buying the "enthusiast" trim and also posting on the enthusiast forum, compared to the other trims.

 

You would think, but there was far less of the 2nd gens. Just maybe Toyota realized its financially in their best interest to produce more Pro's as they are in demand and probably have a decent profit margin?..

 

How would you know there are far less 2nd Gens when the 3rd Gens have just been released?

 

From being a very active member here for the past 5 years, seeing all the new 2nd gen pro's etc., there are already 28 members or more with new Pros, truck just started showing up in late August. Not to mention Toyota said they were increasing production, what's your point?

 

I guess my point is that you haven't stated how many 2nd gens were ever built and the paint is barely dry on the 3rd gens.

 

Never stated, just from being a Tacoma owner and member, I never said for sure, I alluded to there being more just based on the initial delivery we've already seen which was more than previous Pro's. Again what's more likely, Toyota restricting the number of Pros to previous years or uping production and selling more of a high demand trim at a higher profit margin. Hmmm. Its still a small fraction of total Tacomas, but not as small as it was before.

I guess I don't understand the point of coming into the thread of new excited Pro owners to tell us that our trucks are less rare then we think they're going to be(without any real knowledge of this) and to tell us that Toyota is making higher margins(without any real knowledge of this) on our trucks then any of the other Tacomas. We have all read the various posts from non pro owners stating they can build duplicate trucks for 20.00 extra dollars but they will somehow be better. Just seems strange.

We get it, non Pro owners don't understand why we would spend 40k+ on a Tacoma. We get it.

Unless.....you don't mean any of that and then I therefore apologize in advance.

 

Update from the 2016 Chicago Auto Show: Toyota group Vice President Bill Fay says Toyota sold about 1,200 2015 TRD Pros, and he expects to sell twice as many 2017s, which enter production in August. “It’s been a real halo vehicle that is attracting a younger, mostly male audience of more affluent buyers. The TRD Pro helps us brand our 4×4 vehicles. There’s not a lot of volume, but it adds a nice dimension to the offerings we sell.”

 

First off calm down, not attacking you or your purchase. Second, I never said they were less rare, its a Tacoma dude, not an exotic car, I stated they were still limited, clearly but less limited than before it seems. Third I have congratulated said its a beautiful truck, etc. was just discussing with another member who owns a BAJA which was also a limited trim, sorry it offended you. Second higher trims/options always have a higher profit margin, this is car 101, not to mention these trucks are selling at or just at MSRP or above, so ya they make Toyota more money than the average Tacoma and are in more demand clearly. Sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder for some reason.

You stated buying a lower grade truck and upgrading it is better off? We all know you get absolutely zero return on your investment with aftermarket accessories. So.....spending your cash on a bunch of aftermarket accessories that you get zero return on and were never long term tested on a truck doesn't make sense to me. The upfront cost is negligible when you take into account the rareness of a Pro.....it will pay back in spades when it comes time to sell it. That's car 101.

 

Finally!! Got a text late this evening letting me know my Pro landed @ the dealer....Will be heading to dealer tomorrow afternoon to see if I can finalize the deal...

I think your a bit overestimating the rareness factor. They will make them again next year, the year after that, etc. Look at the used market, 2nd gen pros/bajas don't fetch much more if any over regular TRDs. (see kbb below, maybe 16s will be different)

The rest of you logic makes total sense, if you want a stock, factory backed highly capable off road truck the pro is perfect and worth it. You are correct mods don't mean crap come trade in, but will your pro have that much higher resale value to offset the cost someone paid for an OR at invoice, etc. You can buy a base or OR model and get a more capable suspension for the same or less is the point than a PRO, but its not warrantied/OEM which matters to many. The truck has its purpose and is sweet still.

Yea, I think I am the poster child for much of what you said... Fairly rare truck with some extra $ put in with a SC. All these speciality trucks, Baja's, Pro's, etc still have a limited market for buyers. I have had my truck listed for sale for almost two weeks, and only have had one person inquire about it. It's on Cars.com, Auto Trader, Craigslist, and here. With regards to trade in, I have a descent trade offer on the table for my Baja which is only a little higher then a TRD OR. As much as it pains me to say, it's not fetching much of a premium for "being rare" I didn't buy it thinking it was going to be a exotic, and I am not buying a Pro with the pretense that it's going to sky rocket in value in the future either.
