To anyone who has willingly left their families and homes to help folks in the aftermath

    Thank you in advance

Many of us have to weather these storms, but we all appreciate the folks who come in and help with SAR, power, water, cleanup and all the various other tasks ahead of coastal areas in the coming daya

Cat 3/4 storms are no joke. Went through 2 of them when i lived in lake worth back in 2004 i think it was. Sounds like a freight train running over your house for hours, then gets worse, then comes from the other direction. Lost power twice that summer for a week at a time with a 1y.o. Fun fun. Yall stay safe

They're comparing this hurricane to Hugo for those of us north of Florida

There's tons of people refusing to evacuate because they don't think it'll be that bad

I don't mind newscasters or emergency management teams announcing how dangerous this storm can be

    It will kill people

and some of those who stayed will be unprepared and will expect rescue before the storm ends putting rescue workers' lives at risk due to their stupidity

The ones shown staying in their 1950's mobile homes about a mile from the beach, with a fridge full of beer, are the ones I wonder how lived this long.

We used to quit climbing poles for power restoration (pre bucket era) when the winds got to a sustained 35 or so, and deteriorating. Hooks on a pole 35' above the ground with a swaying pole aren't all that safe.

And turns out that while safer, buckets shouldn't be up in much more than that either. Boom moves too much, and even with outriggers there is a lot of motion.

But knuckleheads yelled at us for leaving when their power wasn't on. Told them we'd be back later. And moved them to the bottom of the list.

I just turned on the weather channel and saw how bad it is down there......everyone in FL, GA, and SC please be safe and don't stare mother nature in the face. This is serious. For anyone that decided not to evacuate, which you can't read this right now because you most likely don't have power, we will be thinking of you.
