Don't buy a 2016 or 2017 Tacoma. Wait until 2018.

It sounds like the same problem I am having. It will get worse this winter. Take the service tech for a drive this winter when the vehicle is dead cold (leave it overnight). Make sure your vehicle is stored at a place so that your first acceleration can get you into 4th. Accelerate at 20-40% throttle (or whatever provokes the flare) until you reach 4th gear. Have the tech record the drive, with their TechStream. Push corporate to stand behind the vehicle. Escalate if you are getting nowhere.

I hear you. Perhaps some speculation, but not purely. He has been fixing Toyota's for about 14 years. He knows the cars, and the product trends, very well. So far, all of his comments are being verified in peoples' experiences. I personally think he was dead right.

You have the same problem I have. Toyota is replacing my transmission. Push the issue.

What bugs are people talking about? I have 17,000 miles on my 2016 and it's been flawless. No issues what so ever.

 

I'm not sure I totally agree. I just bought a 2017 DCLB and I'm happy. The truck does hunt a little but nothing like I read from the 2016 owners. I waited forever since my last one was a 2005. I never really had a need to replace it. Traded it in and in 3 days it was sold.

 

i woudn't wait till ''winter'' to bring that in and have tech streamed. call corporate and open a case. asap.

Other than the TSB on the Tranny shifting, which the dealer took care of, I love my Taco and it runs great..its my 4th Toyota truck and no regrets.
