245 vs 265

245 vs 265 for 16" rims?

Pros and cons?

 

245 less weight and better MPG.

265 heavier, worse economy, better aesthetics, wider contact patch.

 

Thank you. Just seems more people than not have 265s. Didn't know if I was missing something. I'm not looking to jazz it up to much, but want to get my money's worth as well.

 

265s are popular because the proportions match better.

Also, the speedometer is 100% accurate with a 265/75/16 or equivalent.

 

255s....

 

245's look too small, even on stock suspension.

 

The difference, which is what you asked for, is 20mm which is just shy of 1" in thickness at the tread.

The difference in width cannot have a pro or a con without understanding many other details of usage and purpose.

 

There are pros and cons to each. Which of those matter to the OP is another matter.

 

That's what I said. They may also be pros in one context and cons in another. A 245 is gonna be easier to turn and better on fuel mileage, but it'll also be lower to the ground and have less side wall.

That's why you can't tell him what a pro or con is without knowing what he needs.

 

Being in the Midwest I will be buying the BFG ko2s for four season driving. I can't say I go off roading more than driving through the property or two tracks out to hunting spots. We do however have heavy snowfall. I'm not looking to get a lift anything or put much money into the Taco. I bought it for reliability and resale value. I'm not one to get to wrapped up in aesthetics, but if it is worth it to have a little more tread for the above said, and a few less MPGs then it sounds like 265s are a good bet.

 

If you're not planing to change up the suspension then go with a 70 aspect ratio.

265/70/16 = approx 31" dia
265/75/16 = approx 32" dia
