No, you want RPM's as low as possible* for cruising.

    * There comes a certain point where higher RPM's get better efficiency but that's usually when you lug an engine or have a very heavy truck such as @Blackdawg 's frankenstein.

If you get an ultraguage for your truck it will give you real time fuel efficiency and will essentially coach you on how to drive more efficiently.

Ah, I forgot gears. I'm on 5.29s lol. That and I shift/drive like an old man, and very rarely drive over 65mph.

Should have got a v6. The I4 doesn't get any better milage around town then the v6. Get a ultraguage and watch it. Adjust driving habits according. Alot of it has to do with how you drive, if you leave it set at idea for long time, etc. But 13 is bad for the city. You should be able to get 16-17 maybe 18 if your lucky.

Stop and go is what kills mpg. If you have a ultraguage you will see that even under moderate accelerating you will get like 10mpg. So if your always accelerating then stopping, your mpg will suck, the more you stay at cruising speed the better. Coasting helps to.

I would've gotten a V6 if I would've known anything about trucks before I got my 4 banger. I'll look into getting an ultra gauge and looking at what that shows me. Any other advice? Any of those fuel additives I should use or sea foam or something like that??

Somethings wrong or you drive super hard.

I can get close to 19 on the highway with 33's, front and rear plate bumpers, and a 2.5 inch lift.

Guess you could run some seafoam through it. It's probably not going to magically give you better mpg though. It could be from other things like a bad or malfunctioning o2 sensor. Having a ultraguage could help you diagnose that. A plugged cat could be a problem as well. Wouldn't hurt to get new plugs and airfliter if that hasn't been done. Clean the maf and throttle body too.

these do exist. theyre usually called dobbers. most glass shops will have them cause that's what we use to put primer down before the urethane used to seat the windshield. we buy ours off of Amazon. i can find a link later.. Dobbers!!

    improved toyota goodness.
    that sucks. literally
it is normal for me to see 20+ MPG on the highway and about 19-20 around home (80% hwy)... that said once they switch to winter gas my MPG averages go straight to china. anywhere around 14-19 is normal for me for winter.
v6 double cab, 4x4, 4.10's, 1.5 inch lift, 265's, camper shell, heavy skid's, and always a shit ton of tools (300+ lbs)...
oddly I get better fuel economy with the topper on and semi aggressive 265 75's than I did without it and running less aggressive 265 70's.

Yeah thats another things is staying at or under 70 on the highway. Seems like going any faster kinda hurts the mpg a little.

I think I'm gonna get a new o2 sensor and maybe a new cat and see how that does. If that doesn't change anything I'm just gonna do my engine swap a little earlier than I expected (5-7 years from now)... why not right?

I guess if these things have a ton of miles on them then it would hurt to get them replaced. No promises its going to fix your issue though.
