Has anyone installed the combination above with a winch? I think it will fit without the winch, but where the intercooler pump is mounted interferes with my winch...

Thanks, here is a picture of the problem:

    Bumper:

    Intercooler pump:

The pump is right in the middle of the intercooler/radiator and about 2 inches above where the aluminum bumper is attached. It sticks out about 4 inches and as you can see from the bumper pic, I only have an inch or so to work with... Wondering what others have done to resolve this (IOW, where did you move the pump and what did it take).

I don't have one of either but good pics. I would suggest taking that winch apart and re-clock so that you get better access to the lever. It would be a bitch to be in a postition to need it and not be able to engage it! :)

I'm not sure I need to clock the winch with the All-pro bumper.

I can reach the lever easily through the large holes in front, and if I can't I'm probably screwed anyway because I wouldn't be able to unhook the rope (there is a hook just inside the driver side hole above the winch to hook up the rope) or attach the remote controller.

That's actually part of my question: Where have others moved the pump to?

I could tear everything apart to measure, but it seemed easier to ask here first. Especially since I'd have to put it all back together again to go get the parts needed.

I guess my question wasn't clear?

You have to maintain the orientation of the pump, so it's not like any space available will work.

    As an update on this...

I've decided to let the dealer move it. That way there is no question regarding warranty. I got worried after I realized that the belt on my supercharger with 6,000 miles on it was cracking badly.

Looks like a new supercharger next week as it's making that rattle sound every once in awhile as well now. The belt is just way to tight.

Anyway, they are going to move the intercooler pump and mount my winch at the same time. Here's how it looks so far though:

Still have a little bit of a fitment issue with the rear bumper, but that should be done over the weekend (it got dark when I put it on and it was just me, so...). The antenna is for my Yaesu FT-8800R (2 meter and 70cm) ham radio.

wait what? They are giving you a new supercharger? Or a new belt? If it's the blower rattling, can you get that on video. I know someone with a similar issue but his dealer wont warranty anything.

As for moving the pump, there are a ton of different places it could be mounted, just buy about 10 ft of hose and start trying out different spots.

The pump is easy to move (I'd already removed it and drilled the new holes to mount it), but once I realized I had an issue (the belt cracking) I decided to just let them do it so I didn't hear something about a failure of the intercooler pump caused the supercharger to fail. They're not going to charge me to move it btw.

When the belt is too tight it causes excessive stress on the bearing on the supercharger. I explained that I bought it and had them install it so I would have a more powerful, but still reliable ride when I travel and that I had alot of concern that the supercharger would fail in the middle of nowhere.

They seemed just as concerned and said they would check it all out and replace it if needed. I mentioned the rattle at times and one of the techs that was there said he heard of that problem and would make sure a supercharger was available locally just in case they could repro it.

They'll end up measuring play and if it's out of spec they'll replace it. I kind of made it clear that if I have to get a tow out of the middle of North Cascades NP or Olympic NP because the supercharger failed then they will likely end up having to pay that bill. And if it causes a wreck because of complete power failure, my insurance would likely go after them for that as well.

Wish I could film the rattle, but it doesn't happen often, just a couple times a week so far.

Ah ok. Im not calling bs just yet, but the belt tensioner on the s/c most likely isn't too tight. They have so much room to play with. They are several people, including myself running much smaller pulley's and combo's of smaller pulleys and we still have plenty of belt room to work with. Belt wear/cracks is completely normal. My belts are lasting around 10K miles before cracking. I always have 2 spares in the truck.

The potentially bad news is the the rattle might be engine knock/ping. A local guy here has had his blower for almost 2 years now and it has been pinging since day one. I have bee trying to figure out why. First I discovered a few very loose rattling bolts on the install, and even a few badly cross threaded ones. Dealer did his install. Then I discovered his intercooler reservoir tank was bone dry....had never been filled, and most recently discovered his intercooler hoses were routed incorrectly.

Beware of dealer install jobs with the TRD blower.

What other engine/perf. mods do you have currently?

if this newer TRD blower is anything like the 3.4L version it probably has a plastic coupler between the snout and the impeller drive.

the older ones would get pretty loud and recommended a snout swap at I think 60K.

i sounded kind of like a deisel at idle, rattling around, but once the snout was replaced, it quieted eight down.

Isnt APR putting a new solid coupler in the snout when they do the 2.7 inch pulleys? it may be as simple as that upgrade.

I bet then end up putting a new snout on the blower, and not replacing the whole thing. High belt tension would wear the nose drive bearings, but shouldnt damage anything else.

    good luck though

if you really want a professional opinion on the blower, get in contact with Magnasun. They do alot of development for TRD on these units and would be a much better contact than the Dealer.

Down the road when it needs a rebuild, they can do that as well

Yes APR does put a solid coupler in the snout for the 2.7

I have one on mine and it sounds awesome at idle. Has a high pitch whistle...sounds very much like the larger eaton's you find on mustang's and hot rods

Whatever. Not really sure why you think you might need to call bs at all.

As for the belt, I'm at 6k after the install and it's about to go. It is extremely tight. As in measuring the amount of play (1/8"?) is a challenge. And that takes effort.

The truck has less than 12K on it. There are no other perf mods to the engine.

Reservoir was fine, as was hose routing (I checked that stuff before I left when it was first installed). Interestingly the belt was no where near as tight then as it is now.

My68ur8trd: The rattle (loud diesel like sound) is occuring when I turn off the truck. It's just happened a few times over the last month or so. The tech didn't look happy about that.

Im just saying that if the dealer is telling you its the belt tensioner being too tight, he is probably covering up the real issue...whatever that may be. That is just my suspicion at the moment, I could be wrong. Im not hating on you, I just dont trust any dealers. The amount of bad experiences I have had with them myself is why.

The tensioner is spring loaded. They dont typically get tighter over time. Unless it was messed up to begin with.

As for an 1/8" of play..is that with the tensioner loosened or tight?

LOL, I agree with you. I have pretty much zero trust in dealerships. I suspect it wasn't done right in the first place and they know it, so they are being accomodating. It's scheduled for next week, so I guess we'll see.

That is with the tensioner tight.

Edit - BTW, they know I did all the other work on the truck (suspension, oba, etc.), so they know I'm not the typical consumer who is going to take whatever they say as gospel.

1/8" movement when tight is fine. Get the tensioner loose with a 1/2" ratchet and see if the belt will come off the top ribbed pulley without having to slid off the smooth pulley below it. When loosened it should be very easy to take off.
