-Most including myself knew of the small issues, test drove, didn't find any and then later developed things like differential howls around 2k miles in and needing replaced.
-Many are getting branded as complainers when they are simply stating the issues they are having to make everyone else aware and thus educate people on possible issues later into ownership, etc. This is a good thing, wouldn't you want to know hey I might need my diff replaced later as this has developed with other owners around 2k miles into ownership, here's how they dealt with it.
-I will agree out of 5 tacomas I've owned this one is my favorite feature and look wise, but I also wont sit here and pretend it dosent have issues and it has had the most in the 3 months Ive owned it out of all the others I've owned, yes they all had something or other at some point.
    - In closing simply calling everyone who has issues complaining women dosent solve anything. I agree if they come here just to complain that's one thing but most don't, most say hey I got this issue, anyone else? And then people discuss what they did, extended warranties through Toyota customer service, etc. But dismissing everyone with issues as the minority or a bunch of whiners dosent help anyone and certainly not those who may develop these issues later down the road.

Am I only only one who simmers down and pays respect whenever @Woodrow F Call speaks? I don't know if it's the avatar, the name or what, but the man seems wise to the ways of the world

But he could be some 19 year old little shit for all I know

@Clearwater Bill is another that falls into this category for me

Please read the actual thread it's not 177 out of tens of thousands, some of you need to take a statistics class, it was an example of a thread where the question was asked how many have a diff howl, some 800 people viewed the thread and responded, not thousands and 177 had a problem, you cant just take that number and run with it. You also neglecting oh yes the many more members here who have had their transmission fluid filled, had the transmission tsb, had their leafs replaced, had the lower control arms plugged, had their diffs replaced, had their idler pullies replaced, had the cps replaced, etc. The lemon small minority thing is way played out, sure there are plenty of happy owners, but there are plenty who have had some issue, not a small 177 minority, and most not even on here would likely take it to the dealer to get it fixed before even coming here, I'm a happy owner, but Im not gonna say Toyota or the new Tacoma is perfect either that dosent help anyone.

I agree 100% with everything you said. My intention with that first sentence was not to attack people complaining-it was more so a joke referencing the old "women complain about everything" stereotype. Sorry it wasn't funny. But we're on the same page sir! its nice to have a forum to notify people of problems, but sometimes they're hiliariously repetitive. My logic is not flawed. Cheers brotha!

    Ok, last response. promise.

I am not basing my implied "simple math" on the poll results within the thread you mention. For starters, that is the worst place to pull numbers to find statistics. Your example with trump voters is a completely different situation than what we have here on the thread...a better sample size would be to randomly ask 1000 tacoma owners in our town the same question.

The poll in the thread is like going to a gay bar and finding 80 gay people out of 100. Extrapolate and flip that number around all you want...your answer is still shit. Based on the information we have in front of us, simple 101 statistics is not going to get you anywhere near the true mean/standard deviation. As a matter of fact, there are too many unknown variables to brings statistics into the poll results/TW forum, so lets get off the "stats" horse.

Also, my intent was not to turn this into an argument over stats nor am I dismissing the significance of your personal quarrels with your new truck. My original post was stating why we are seeing an increased number of issues. In my opinion, this is a result of the manufacturing process here in the US/Mexico. My opinion comes from 11 years as an engineer in the manufacturing industry, so I feel that it holds some weight. I am not saying that my comments are 100% fact, which is why it is my own perspective and opinion. You just happened to take my minority comment way out of context. Nonetheless, I think that we are stretching the truth if we were to say that most 3rd gens have issues.

All I have to say is I thank my lucky stars for this site. I've had quite a few issues with my truck but none of them have been major issues like engine or transmission problems.

My problems were relatively "minor" like:
    • windshield kazoo noise (fixed by dealer with TSB)
    • blower motor tick (replaced under warranty)
    • foam blocking the defrost vent (found a fix on TW)
    • rusting rear bumper (replaced on warranty)
    • serpentine belt went after 60,000 kms (found a DIY on TW)
    • squeaky front control arms (found a fix on TW)
    • rattling noise coming from shifter boot (foudn a fix on TW)
    • several instances of excessive wind noise around doors (found a fix on TW)
    • door latch out of alignment (found a fix on TW)
    • rusting door latch (fixed it myself)
    • broken center console clasp (found a fix on TW)
    • squeaky leaf springs (found a fix on TW)
    • rusting frame (have not found a fix for that yet)
These are most of them but not all.

If I was not handy and could not of found good DIY's on this site I probably would have sold my truck years ago. It's only got 80,000 kms on it. I've owned a Nissan Xtrerra and Honda Accord and put more kilometers on them (110,000 for Xterra and 90,000 on the Honda) but they never had the number of problems as my truck does.

As for my old Ford mustang, well let's just say Ford has their own paradigm when it comes to reliability.

Agreed, I even said the sampled population and other variables make it far from a good indication, but so is your simple math original quote too. I'm just saying there are far more than a few with issue(s) as so many like to come on here stating. Dismissing it as that helps no one now or in the future.

I agree and certainly your experience holds weight and validity to your opinion. I also too have had 5 of these trucks, all configs, years, and that should mean something too. I agree that you wont get as high quality of a product produced here, mexico, china, etc. as compared to somewhere like Japan, just a different culture and work ethic entirely. I was simply posing my idea that this truck was rushed to market without extensive R&D especially given its been 11 years since the last Tacoma and gave my reasoning as to why, both theories and ideas and stating why.

On a joking note, still waiting for you to tell me what parts were carried over from 1st gen to 2nd gen Tacoma as you stated earlier (mind you I've owned and worked on both)...

Haha, not necessarily carried over from the domestic 1st gen to the 2nd generation...but I believe that the 1gr 4.0 motor was used in a couple vehicles overseas, prior to it being applied to the the 2nd generation tacoma.

i wouldn't worry to much about it. This might or might not have been driver error. It got fixed under warranty which is what made me happy.

Hate to break it to the apologists but GM is making major gains in market share with the Tacoma. Add the Canyon and the Colorado up and you aren't that far from Tacoma sales last month.
Yes, I know this is only one month and not YTD but I do think people are looking elsewhere for mid-size trucks more often. You can bet Ford won't phone in the Ranger.
