Truck struggles

so when im driving the truck and going up a small incline I give it some extra gas and it begins to sound like its struggling really bad. The main problem is that I even have this issue if im not going up an incline. It sounds like the fan(i think) starts to work really hard along with the rest of the engine and im not talking like pedal to the floor gassing it i mean like some extra pressure just to get it moving.
anyone know whats going on?

 

auto trans? It likes to stay in the highest gear possible. More skinny pedal required. Or just flip it into 4th...

 

the fan is a clutch style. meaning its on a bimetal actuated clutch. the fan doesnt spin the same speed as the crank unless the bimetal gets hot activating the clutch. most cars when they need additional cooling you can here the fan solanoid click and the fans come on. on our trucks the fan runs all the time. it just gets louder when more heat is produced (stepping on the gas up an incline).

In the morning the fan clutch is cold which actually makes the fan spin the speed of the crank and the fan is super loud. as the vehicle warms up the clutch acts the way its supposed to.

if the engine only sounds like its laboring but there is still plenty of power i wouldnt worry about it.

 

I know exactly what you mean , the truck is geared to stay in 5th for way too long , I have gotten used to reaching over and knocking it into 4th when going up hills , seems to not want to shift on its own until it is practically lugging .

Just curious, What were the temps in your area when you noticed this. I tend to notice my truck really struggling when its cold out. I've only had it a couple of months so it has been freezing until this last week, and i noticed a little more pep.

Damn, I always wondered why the fan was super loud first thing in the morning!

 

Never had an issue.... dunno what to say. Guess I just trained her good.
