I need help mounting my CB antenna.

It's my understanding that with antennas, you have to be careful with where you put it because interference with the body/metal can effect how well the antenna performs. I have a roll bar in my truck and I want to mount the antenna on that. But I'm not sure if where I want to put it will work because it's kinda close to the bars. I think there would be about 3" of room between the antenna and all the bars and the body. Will this be enough room for it to NOT be effected?

 

I dont know a whole lot about CB set ups, but from what I have gathered is that as long as it is grounded you should be fine, but dont quote me on this. Im curious to see what others have to say though.

 

Its more important to have a good ground plane... smack dab in the middle of the cab roof is the best place, but not all ways practical.

 

I am not sure where on the bar you are mounting it, but the more of the antenna that is above the cab the better.

I have a 2008 Taco since this is a composite bed the choices are very limited to where and how to mount an anteena so this is what I did, I did find an antenna mount for this app. but it was $30 plus $14 to ship it, what a waste so I went to HomeDepot ( no a sales pitch ) and in the electrical dept. I picked up spring loaded UNI STRUT connectors 3/8" bag of 4 for $4.09 that will do the same thing once you remove the spring. the only difference is you use 2 of them over the marketed mount. Along with the 3way antenna mount your set. I used 16AWG for my grounding that I will attach to the bed behind/ between the cab and bed fenders. the anteena is a 5.5ft Firestick. I'll mount the antenna in the center of the bed in the tie-down runner.
the radio is a CLASSIC President Jackson silver face that I'll mount in the space just in front of cup/can holders or on the passenger side on the kickpanel

 

Also note that at least 40% of the antenna should be above the highest point of the truck.
