I've driven over 80 with them for 60+ miles on the interstate. No dice.

I followed the book and have done everything mentioned in this thread before the thread was even created. Going to Toyota this afternoon.

After buying a set of Taco rims and tires from a friend, the first shop told me all was well with my sensors, but I probably bought the wrong ones (implied as I didn't buy from them.)

Second shop scratched their heads, found the spare sensor bad, replaced with a generic and I was good to go, albeit $45. lighter in my pants.... But, that friggin' little yellow light was gone !

    :yay:

    It's the simple things....

Are you saying you can't rotate the tires on a '16+, because the sensors are location specific?

    I don't buy it.

I don't believe anyone said you can't rotate tires, or that the sensors were location specific. When my tires were rotated, the dealer had to reset the system so the display would show the correct pressure in the appropriate tire. 2016 Tacoma's show tire pressure for each wheel in the dash center display.

Prior year Tacoma's only showed low pressure somewhere with the dash light, and therefore would be no need to reset the system.

'16, '17 SR's do not have this feature, FYI ... different center display on the lower trim.

You are correct. I've had a 2007 base, a 2015 base access cab, and a 2016 SR access cab. The gen 2 models only had the dash light and the 2016 SR has the smaller LED display. (I've had 4 different Tacomas in the last year.)

I currently have a 2016 SR5 with the larger display. I should have been more clear as I was just thinking of my current SR5. Sorry, for the mistake. I guess my age is catching up with me.

I understand that the sensor needs to get in sync with the picture on the dash. RF-RF and all that.

But by reset, do you mean something you can do at home in the driveway with a button on the dash, or something the dealer has to do with a specialty tool?

I'm hoping by a button. So the owner can DIY rotations in the driveway.

There is a reset button for the TPMS system at the lower left of the steering wheel. Probably similar to the gen 2 Tacoma's. owner's manual should be of assistance in resetting the TPMS. At my age, I let someone else take care of it.

You are supposed to reset the system after a rotation. It's in the manual. I've tried a dozen times, and while the yellow dash light is out I can't get the tire pressure readout. I'm done screwing with it.

I spent over $80 a sensor at Les Schwab Tires so I could keep the OEM rims and tires whole. As stated before, they claim to not have the device to program the 2016 Tacoma. Wish they would have told me this before they sold me the sensors and labor. Just spent 2 hours at my Toyota dealership to tell me the after market sensors are not working with my computer. FML

True. But I bet you wish you'd have thought to ask too........

What a shame. Any chance of a refund? I think you deserve one.

Just left Toyota. Service asked if I had the tires changed (which is obvious), and said that if they break the tires down and find a malfunction it's covered under warranty, but if broken it will cost me $199 a piece to replace. Told them I was not interested and am bringing it back to the tire shop first thing tomorrow. It's their problem. Another update tomorrow.

Hope you got a great deal on those tires. Seems like you could of just got a set from the dealer or had the dealer swap them and they would of made sure your sensors were working in the first place. Not all dealers charge more for tires. I know we price match. Our labor might be a little bit more, but now you can see where that's worth it

Would try to get a refund. I know the Toyota dealer wants about $85 each plus tax for the proper sensors. Trdparts.com sells them for $56 each plus shipping. Older sensors and aftermarket sensors will not work for the 2016+.
Here are the correct part numbers
for 2016 the Toyota Part Numbers for TPMS sensors are:

    Alloy Wheels: P/N 42607-06030 (PMV-C015)

    Steel Wheels: P/N 42607-04020

Additionally, very few tire dealers have the updated programming tool for the 2016 Tacoma. I think it is a software update that may have a fee from Toyota to the tire dealers. I think that is why the Toyota dealers are charging $100+ to program the 2016 sensors. If tire dealers had the proper tool, they would program the sensors either for free or a very small fee.

Aftermarket sensors will not work with the 3rd gen Tacoma. There's 7 digits to the factory sensors and only 6 for aftermarket which the computer will not pick up even though they're the same frequency. I had the tire place I went to by factory sensors and reprogram them in. They did it for free instead of a refund

If what you're saying is true, and you kept the factory sensors, then the tire shop broke one or more.

Supposedly my aftermarket sensors are 7 digit as well. Did you have this same issue? Was this a chain tire store or a mom and pop?IMG_0066.jpg

My aftermarket sensors were only 6 digits. It was a chain place, Tires Plus. After spending $100 at Toyota to look at it, the outcome was aftermarket sensors I had wouldn't work. Went back to the tire store and asked for a refund. Had to talk to the manager next day and he said just drop it off and they would get Toyota sensors and fix it. No charge for them doing so. Saved a big hassle

Thank for the help and hope! Hopefully my local chain store will do me right like yours did!
