    A few bolts are different.
*I have posted on other toyota forums, Just want see if there could be any response from here also*

I have read the FSM about disassembling the entire t-case but it I would like a little reassurance. I have an 84 g52 trans with forward shift. I was able to find a top shift reduction box (see pic of parts i have below) to build a dual set-up. My plan is to take out the current t-case and separate the forward shift reduction box from it to install my Marlin adapter on it. From this point I would put my top shift reduction box on the same back portion of the t-case and mount the forward shift with Marlin adapter in front of all that to work with my g52. The main question--> is it as easy as I think it is? Can I just unbolt the 4 bolts holding the forward shift reduction box to the back of the t-case and everything come apart, without a "jack in the box" type fiasco, enabling me to install the top shift to the t-case as the rear case?

These are the top shift parts I have (pic not showing shifter, base and cross-member mount)

is there any DIY for this set-up out there? Thanks for the help.

it should not matter which case you put in front due to the fact that you can get a front shift to top shift conversion from Marlin. i do know that if you want to install twin sticks later that you can only do it on a top shift case.

also 5.20:1 crawl ??? if your running dual cases both with stock gears you have 2.28x2.28 from just the cases so yes 5.20 at the rear output not hooked to anything. but your over all crawl will actually be 84:1 for 4.10s and 108:1 for 5.29s
if you do twin sticks you will have
    4x4 w/5.29: 48:1, 108:1
    4x2 w/5.29 48:1, 108:1

if you have the money you should get the 4.7 gears in your rear case and then you can get the lowest of 222:1 w/ 5.29

It does matter when you've got an 84 with a g52 (the t-case shifter is actually located on the trans. tail housing) and want to cut the least amount of cab floor and not spend $$ for a top shift conversion.

yes, 5.20:1 is the gearing ration when stacking 2 stock cases, not final crawl ratio. Twin sticks have nothing to do with gear ratio. They allow you to be in 2 wheel drive compound low so it's easier to get around turns if your running a locker such as a Detroit in the front instead of an ARB or E-Locker that can be switched on/off.

I definitely wish I had the money to put 4.7's in the rear case.
