The original question we proposed was if we, as human beings, are the only ones with a conscience? I contend that we are not. Humans are not the only animals that form bonds and a social structure. Dolphins (and orcas) for example live in pods and tend to live with the same group for the eternity of their lifespan. Dolphins use more of their brain than us humans and therefore are extremely intelligent animals.

Elephants also do something similar and are very self aware of themselves. A study was done where where they marked a big white x on the head of a elephant and placed a large mirror in front of him. The elephant looked into the mirror and used his trunk to attempt to wipe the x off of his face. The is the essence of self awareness and being conscious of oneself. These are just a few of the animal species that are capable of self awareness but also consciousness of oneself and the interactions between others.

That's a very weird question, but laws forbidding those actions aside... It's morally wrong? I'm an atheist but I think that my ability to have a decent set of morals without believing in a higher power makes me a good person no matter what belief system you subscribe to. I'm not perfect by any means and I still make poor decisions sometimes. We all do. But sexual assault, stealing, or murder is something that I've never had a desire to do and in all honesty has never crossed my mind. Belief in a higher power doesn't necessarily make you a good person. Treat others as you would like to be treated is very easy and in my personal opinion is the right thing to do.

Nailed it. We find morals by being empathetic - we empathize with others when we understand how a victim feels, thus we shouldn't want to impose that on others. I sure don't need a magic man in the sky to tell me that I have to feel that way.

Ohh... ok so my answer will be : No , we're not the only one with conscience but my comments were how ironic we have the highest conscience and intelligence in this world and what we do to animals and other humans is like we act without any kind of conscience , worst than animals.

 

I think the point that "we have the highest rate of intelligence and consciences" may be greatly assumed.
I would argue that maybe animals have the greater power, and maybe that is why they do not turn on us humans or on one another so frequently for that matter.

 

We act like primates. They do horrible things to each other in the name of territoriality, and humans have been doing the exact same ever since departing that branch and going our own way. The difference is that we have advanced our methods of killing each other, while primates just rip off each other's faces and testicles.
