Got 5,000 miles on my taco, Off Road TRD and the MPG computer is not very good. On average for a tank of gas I get about .5 miles a gallon better mileage than the computer will show. I also think there is something else wrong with it. Sometimes I will fill up and it show 15.8 MPG out of the gas station for many miles adjusting and then pop up to mid 16s or low 17s for a while. Other times I will get 18-19 mpg and stay in that range. I do live in the hills but it is not consistent. On average my real MPG is about 17.8 MPG

0.5 off it pretty good for any MPG computer. When you refill your tank the MPG per tank resets automatically. When you accelerate from a gas station your MPGs will be low, it then stabilizes as your get more miles on the tank. This is a feature so you do not have to reset it automatically rather than a problem.

When your calculating you also have to remember when it says 0 to empty you still have like a gallon of fuel or so in the tank. So the truck read out also isn't compositing for that, where you math might. So I'll be it's a lot close than that

Why not use it when it is adequately accurate?

This is correct. When your gas light is on or it says 0, there actually is another gallon (roughly) of fuel left. I have heard this is called a "Reserve" tank or something like that. I could be wrong but it is a fact that there is still one last gallon left.

I have checked my mileage manually at every fill up, it`s always within .2

My other car, Nissan Rogue is right on the numbers, same with my airplane. Its too bad this system is not very accurate. It represents about 3% error. You would think the system could be more accurate given the technology available.

3% error rate is fantastic. I only wish that everything in my life was that accurate.

There are 2.5 gallons left when you show 0 miles to empty.

My truck computer matches fuelly perfectly. The computer is better than any fill up estimate. The pump cannot fill up a tank to the same capacity each time you fill up. The truck computer knows exactly how much gas is going into the engine at all times.

Lol. Yeah I would hope your airplane is more accurate. You can't exactly pull over and hop out with a jerry can in hand to hoof it to the nearest station. Not really a good comparison there. Nissan...sure.

Yes that is correct. I have had my private since I was 18 and have worked in Naval Aviation for the past 23 years.
