Robi is a retired AHT and the Vet she worked for is now a teacher at UC Davis - highly recommended it for at risk dogs, those that heart worm and parasites are far worse than the cure. Because of skin issues Tehya gets bathed every 10 days, spends a lot of time in the ocean and lakes/streams so topical's do not work.

One of the studies found that many dogs that died had underlying issues or already had undetected heart worms. Not like I am defending the manufacturer but both ingredients are available separately. Possible that doing both at once was the cause of some deaths. They give IM and SubQ shots in different legs, shoulders now because of interactions, her vet started championing that 35 years ago and it is now standard practice.

Heck, the vitamin tab that we give the dog went up by 200%, the company - PetTab - was bought out by large pharma and raised the price from $25/360 to $95/500 - you wonder what about greed that makes people angry.
Anyway, off my soapbox and back to the dogs we love. Tehya sez "camping in the desert is fun with air conditioning"

I'm convinced the rattlesnake vaccine does not work. I was going to get my border collie/jack russell mix vaccinated because he's my trail dog when mountain biking here in AZ, but after a lot of research, I chose not to do it. As far as I can tell, there's no proof whatsoever that the vaccine actually works. There's a lot of info on the internet about it and some even call it a hoax. So far he's only barked when he sees a snake and hasn't gotten close enough to get bitten. It's going to be an emergency visit to the vet regardless of whether a dog has the vaccine or not.

Our local fire dept sometimes has training to teach a dog to avoid snakes. I haven't attended but I think it involves a coiled rope and maybe a rattle with negative reinforcement.

You can get into a pretty heated argument with some folks over the snake vaccine. I don't know the truth! That being said, if I hunted in snake country I'd give
    to my dogs.
Snake avoidance training is done with live defanged rattlers and an electronic collar. Make sure you use a trainer that knows what he's doing.

The dog is a service dog, with the vest on, she minds, lays down, stays right by Robi's side. Without the vest, she is a maniac. Tried the aversion training, she can't keep her nose off the ground. Hope the vaccine helps but yeah, not sure it would help but for $10 it is better than nothing. Kind of like a flu shot, you might still get it but it isn't so bad.

No, info is always good, it can only help people even if it is a repeat for some.

I'm quite happy that my yellow lab (female) stands her ground and barks at things, but doesn't give chase. 9 years here and she's only gotten lightly skunked once, one of our previous dogs got heavily skunked monthly.

Found this handy chart while googling flea and heartworm pill...might want to look into the different ones.

Great looking dog. My lady and I are looking to get a GSD in the next year or so. I Love how loyal and smart they are. Not to mention how beautiful they can be. Congrats!

I was starting to save to lift my truck... Had it all planned out... 5100s, 888 coils...LR UCAs, 3 leaf aal...

Instead I'm picking up a Cane Corso on the 20th. Our 3rd dog. He is blue brindle. My first AKC registered dog.. Father is an akc grand champion. And he is coming from a breeder of merit.

I just brought home my 2nd dog back the end of May. A mix breed puppy that i adopted.. I was told he was half English mastiff and half lab... Doubt it is true because he is only 40 lbs now at 6months... Regardless he will be loved. But i still wanted another large breed dog.

I have had dogs all my life. At least one and up to 5 at any point in my memory... Never cared if they were purebred, registered, or any of that crap but this time i wanted to make sure i knew what i was getting.
