On my way to my buddies house today at a red light my truck started to idle for shit and I smelled burned oil, no engine or oil lights cane on, I started to see blue smoke rolling from the passenger side front wheel well. I immediately pulled over popped the hood and saw my passenger side valve cover dripping with oil and it was leaking onto the exhaust manifold , thank God the dealship was around the corner , they think it's a cam bearing and gasket on the rear side of the motor , I can't believe this shit , it's 2 weeks old and just rolled 300 miles on the odometer, has anyone had this problem or heard of this problem? It's a 2017 dcsb v6 Auto trd off road

I haven't seen anyone on the forum with this issue before.. I think you are just the (un)lucky one. Let the dealer solve it and open a case with Toyota to see if they will give you an extended warranty!

Once they call me back I will post exactly what was wrong with it for future threads just in case someone else's truck has the same problem

It's s vehicle. Stuff happens. I've seen cars/trucks need new motors put in with less miles on the odometer. I've seen new vehicles completely ripped apart trying to fix electrical concerns. It happens. It sucks but it happens. That's why they come with warranties. This isn't common for the new Tacoma like a CPS failure if that makes you feel any better. They will need to tear down the head to replace everything. It could of been worse and been a problem in the lower end so be thankful that it wasn't. They'll take care of it for you. Like I said it sucks that it happens, but things like this do unfortunately. You can file a complaint with Toyota and perhaps they will give you a complimentary extended warranty. Some have been lucky enough to get one with a less severe issue.

Thanks law , it's a great truck I've had 2 in the past hopefully it's a gasket failure and nothing bigger , otherwise it's a sweet ass truck !!! And hopefully toyota is cool enough to extend the warranty that would be even cooler

I didn't mean to come off like a dick. Just meant it in terms that this stuff does happen and unfortunately there isn't anything you can do. Just be thankful it happened during the warranty period and not afterwards. Hopefully it's just the gasket but they'll tear it down and check everything just to be sure. If a bearing did go it could cause damage to the head or other parts. If that's the case, you might end up getting a new head. They won't know until it's opened up. No CEL?

Years ago I worked on the line at a Chrysler plant assembling Omni's and Horizons, neither of which was noted for high quality. One of the jobs I had was removing all the external parts off what looked like brand new engines (manufactured by Volkswagen by the way). I'm guessing these were engines that had been replaced in customer cars and we were reusing things like the alternators. I doubt the Tacoma plant is getting enough returned engines to make this worthwhile.

Yes, shit does happen.......just got my 2016 Limited back from Toyota today after having the hood ( 2200 K miles )replaced for the dreaded vib. So far it looks great and NO VIBS !!! Also had the drivers door weather seal replaced for HOWL/WIND noise at highway speed, that too is good, so far. Its not only Toyota that has issues. A few years back my wifes new Q5 had a transmission leak at only 2500 miles on the clock. $15K later and a new tranny the oil leak was gone. The case had a casting glitch causing the leak ! Can happen to anyone or any manufacturer.

That's something Jeep owners would say about new vehicles. Not Toyota owners.

All manufactures have issues. Nothing is perfect, and no manufacture is either. Failures are just something that happen.

Just some have a lot less than others

Well I have some great news ( knock on wood first ) i received a call from the stealership and said my truck was all done . The service advisor stated it was oil passing through the bolt threads that hold the cps in place , they noted that the factory lock thread and sealer failed , they replaced the bolts and reapplied lock thread sealer to all the bolts that hold the cps in place on both heads intake and exhaust cams . She said there will be no problems and it the info was sent to toyota Corp and is dully noted . So I'm keeping my fingers crossed this was the only problem and it's fixed , she also stated this was the first time she's ever seen or heard of this happening on the new 3.5 motors good luck to anyone with the same issues

@Deano1964, did you notice something similar to this when you popped the hood? Ive only had it a week and a half and just noticed the greasy residue on the engine components tonight.

That looks bad enough to be a potential fire hazard.

    Get it looked at ASAP.
