New tire advice...

I have a 2008 Tacoma Sport with 17" rims. Please help me find the perfect set of tires (and the best $$ deal if possible). I take the truck on the beach about 20 times a year and drive on the occasional dirt road but 90% of the time it's just pavement. I live in the Northeast so we also get the occasional snow storm.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have.

 

um lets see you could go with a good all terrian, i am assuming you will not be lifting so the biggest size tires you can use are 265/70/17 or stay with stock 265/65/17
people really like Nitto Terra Grappler Tires, but the most important thing to remember with sand is to air down your tires to about 15 psi to maximize surface area in contact with the sand

 

Yea, I've been going on the beach for years - have the air pump and everything. So could you educate me on the difference between the 70/17 and 65/17? Does that mean the 70/17 tire is slightly larger in circumference than the stock? Will it rub the wheel well when I turn hard?

I as a fellow NY resident would suggest you look at General Grabber AT2's.
I really like them and have had no issues with them at all.
Where in NY are you?

 

I was going to suggest the same tire. I just got a set of Generals. Good tire... should fit your needs well. They're also usually pretty competitively priced w/ comparable Goodyears, Firestone's, etc.

 

I like them a whole lot more than those BFG TA KO's. Wicked good tire for the price. They really grip quite well. And tread wear is not bad either.

 

I too would seriously look at the General Grabber AT2's! They are AWESOME! And they are more then fair on price!

 

And the guy who sold them to me (so take this for what it's worth) said he's never resplaced a set with fewer than 50k miles on them.

i have the general grabber at2's and they are a good tire, i really like them so far this winter!

 

good tread pattern. Lots of sipes like my duratrac's. The siping is what makes them so great in the winter

 

Michelin LTX AT2's or LTX M/S.
265/70/17 runs perfectly ex about 3.5% speedo error.
Rides like a car tire on the road and surprisingly good offroad and snow.
I've owned 3 sets of these.
Great wear, too.

 

I went with the Toyo Open Country AT. Had them mounted the same day we had that nasty Northeast winter storm. They handled terrific in heavy snow and sleet. We'll see how well they wear. So far, so good.

 

I've run several different ATs on several different trucks and I've yet to find anything better than the BFGs. They are fantastic in snow, quiet on the highway and hold up in pretty much every condition. They don't clean as well as some MTs out there in deep mud conditions but I've been in some pretty crappy places and never been stuck... and they're not a MT tire.

Just put a set of 285/70s on with my lift 2 weeks ago and I'm glad to have 'em back. Nobody wants to pay the price but you get what you pay for. Look good, run good and last forever.

People have said that the Duratracs perform well in snow... But i wouldnt know i live in SoCal
