Ahhhh gotta have all that stupid technology bullshit. I can't think of one goddam reason to why i would want to pair my phone to my truck. Is it so i can talk on the phone? I dont want to talk to anyone. Music? The radio will do just fine to drown out the leaf springs. What else? What am i missing that is so great?

Mine does it when it rains, or bad thunderstorms are nearby. I have an iPhone 6s, and don't bother charging but run Bluetooth all the time. It stops resetting when Bluetooth is disconnected.

The head unit has a weather app on it that shows radar. I think that may have something to do with it, if it is loading that radar in the background, all those colors and data for the radar may be causing the crash if it uses too much memory. I wonder if there is a way to turn off that weather app, it isn't like I would ever use the truck's weather app when I have better apps on my phone.

If you dont know what to do with the Bluetooth, then its safe to say you dont need that feature. I cant do without it. I stream music all the time. Also, once in a blue moon Ill use some of the app features and you need BT for that.

Commercial free music, and you can play whatever song you want to listen to from your music library. Also if you don't feel like listening to a particular song, skip it and go the next one. Who needs to pay for Sirius xm when you can listen to pandora for free( I have unlimited data) .
For those with a SR5 you use your phone connected to the unit for Scout GPS.

Iphone 6 here. Radio has rebooted when bad weather is near on a few occasions. I've done all updates and had it in to the dealership twice and thought I had the problem licked.

Today, we had a storm system moving in and radio started rebooting, just like before. I had some time and tried to do some more troubleshooting. Maybe someone else can give it a go if you're experiencing reboots that correspond to weather, but so far THIS WORKS!

    1) I deleted phone from receiver and receiver from phone. Rebooting stopped.
    2) Re-paired phone with truck. Stereo began rebooting again.
    3) Went to Setup>HD Data Setting >Select 'Enable Data Download via HD Only'

Knock on wood, system has performed flawlessly for the last hour or so under intense downpour.

If you're experiencing rebooting, try this and let us know if it works.

Day after the weather, I turned the HD data via phone back on. Still no reboots.

So let me get this right...

I have to stand on my head, click my heels, do the hokey pokie and turn myself around to get a $2000 dollar upgrade to work right? Sounds like a faulty product.

iPhone 6 running whatever the latest software version available. Reboots constantly with even the slightest rain.

I'm going in for scheduled service soon - I'll bring it up with the dealership & report back to what they say... Not expecting much...

I'll try this next time it rains...

Given your previous post (#62), I assume it's a temporary set-up until the rain passes and then switch it back to via phone?

You got it. I'm in Texas, so it may be awhile before I can test it again.

It is going to be raining a lot here over the next couple of months so I'll let you know...

It amazes me that we have vehicle systems that are weather-dependent. :frusty: :censored:

hah. It's a software glitch. I think it may have something to do with the weather app. It's almost like whenever there is a weather warning or busy satellite radar it overwhelms it and causes it to reboot.

You people really believe the rain is causing it to reboot?

It's definetly a software issue. It could be tied to to the weather app. However it's definetly. It the rain. Unless of course you have a sunroof and it's leaking

If you haven't had the radio update do it you take for take it to Toyota and have them reflash it. If you still have an issue they will warranty the unit. Problem solved

Nobody's saying rain is causing their stereo to reboot, but there are quite a few folks who are saying that their stereo reboots in the rain. 3 trips to the dealer and all current software for me. All I ever get is "could not duplicate, escalated to corporate." I've driven the truck 10k miles and it's had 3 rebooting episodes. All 3 happened when there was a real frog choker. I don't think it's coincidence.

Correlation does not equal causation, but its not THAT crazy to think that rain/water could cause an electrical issue and a reboot. There were a few threads with people who got their trucks wet and the whole thing shut down.

I went months without reboots through the summer. Heavy rains and storms coming through my area yesterday and my stereo reboots 3-4 times within a 5 minute stretch. The rain may not be CAUSING the issue, but there is something that happens when rain is in the area that has some effect on the system to make it reboot.

It must be the radar app trying to load all those colorful images in the background maybe.

OK. First off. This is crazy!

Second. I had the same issue head unit rebooting like crazy on a 20 min ride in heavy rain with my phone paired but listening to the radio first and then turning off sound all together.

Third. For all the ignorant rednecks who think this is some mumbo jumbo... I'm actually a software developer and the weather app causing the crashes makes a lot of sense as makes sense setting the weather data to HD radio only.

Thanks OP for the insight... Hopefully they'll fix this as it seems to be a software issue... Which is good news.

Today I talked with our local dealership about this issue. He said a Toyota Engineer was on sight yesterday and said they believe it has something to do with the new iOS update for iPhone 6. He said they are working on a fix. I am going in on Tuesday to get the update, but I am not convinced that that is going to take care of it on its own.
