Broken welds for bumper mount

I just noticed that the tabs that hold on on my Pelfreybilt steel plate bumper on are cracked at the welds. Does anyone know a place in San Diego CA or Near Oxnard Ca that does fabrication/welding to fix this? As you can see, the weld is cracked almost all the way through. There are essentially only two bolts holding the bumper on, 1 on each side. Help please

 

What a poor design on the truck side.

How long was it on till they broke??

There has to be more attachment points then those little brackets.

No wonder it cracked

Didn`t get the rest of the brackets bought this used ??

Where in to much of a hurry ??

My bumper is attached with 8 bolts

I would ask Tyler his recommendation, you aren't the first person I have seen with a steel front bumper and cracked mounts, seems to be a weak point on the structure. It shouldn't be too hard to come up with some extra bracing and weld it in/repair it, there are also several mobile welders/fabricators in Socal that might be able to help you out. Do a search in the Socal region forum for them.

 

Yes i bought the truck used....There are 3 attachments on each side from what i can see. Those 2 and one on the inside that you have to use an extension to get to. So a total of 6 but only two are really holding it on from waht i can see. The crack isnt all the way through but its still bad. There is one on each side that would need an extension to get to. Take a look

Yeah I have the same bumper and want to prevent the issues your having..

 

Now being I am on the other side of the country I can`t be much hands on my days of Flying all over the country to do specialty welding I hope are over.

It should be no big deal to make some better brackets and beef of the truck

I replaced the frame ends one bolt in each side from the front (weld in nuts)

It also ties into the 4 holes were the hook and tie downs were bolted .

Catches the two body bolts as well

What is nice it is all bolted and can be removed if I want to change designs of the bumper

No cracks about 50,000 miles .

 

Yeah @Jamart5 showed me some good brackets to weld on to the frame when I get the chance. Hopefully I can get them done here in the next 2 weeks or so. As for offroading....cant really do any right now because im afraid it will completely fall off

I think you're missing another support that goes on the sway bar bolts to the bumper

 

Looks to me that it is actually the tabs on the truck's frame that are cracking there.
Also looks like there was a gap between the truck frame tabs and the bumper tabs, so when the nuts were tightened down, it bent the tabs on the truck frame out to the bumper. Probably should have had some kind of spacer in there.

Yes there is a gap in there almost to where the bumper can hand down alittle putting stress on those welds. After time i guess i just couldnt take it anymore.

 

It appears you are missing the reinforcement brackets that tie the bumper to the frame. The little flange that the bumpers attach to are simply not enough to support the bumpers, especially under winch pressure.
If you're local in SD please feel free to stop in and pick up a set.
I would suggest a little repair as well. We cannot get it in the shop right now since we just moved this week but I can send you to a local guy that does a ton of installs etc for us, hes top notch.
