Why doesn't anyone own an SR5?

I don't knock folks for preferring autos; in fact, I envy the selection and availability that you enjoy. I'm just glad Toyota still offers a choice in the US.

 

If they made an AC OR Manual I would have been all over it. Only in Canada

 

Really enjoy my SR5s past and present. All the features that I need none that I don't. Some folks folks might desire a locker which is the only benefit that I would have an interest in, never had a need for it though. The seats that come in the TRD make my butt numb because of the bolsters. The SR5 seats are flatter and fit me better, I am a little larger than the intended users I believe.

 

I love my SR5. I went from a 2006 Tundra SR5 4WD to my 2016 Taco SR5 4x4. The truck felt like home right away. I prefer the cloth seats because I spend a lot of time on the beach and leather can get so hot it'll literally burn you. My truck has everything I want and since I've never had the gee whiz tech I don't miss it. I don't trail ride or anything like that so I don't need the locker. Get what works for you and enjoy it.

 

Aside from creature comforts the biggest thing missing from an SR5 for off road is the electronic locker, but that can be fixed for $1500 with an air locker which some consider to be a better locker. I would add the need to swap out stock tires and suspension but it seems to me that 90% of the people who buy an off-road (at least on this forum) swap their stock suspension and tires out as well, so what's the difference?

 

Digging those rims. Did you plastidip the appearance package ones?

 

Yea plasti dipped SR5 ones. My best option till I can lift and afford new wheels all at the same time.

 

I like the SR5. Much less gaudy than the TuRD twins. Wish it was available with the 6MT.

 

I like the SR-5 too and actually I like all of them. I also like the way some have to defend their purchases by coming across like assholes. So I'll do the same. I like my "gaudy" TRDOR and prefer it to the plainjane, lackluster, boring, uneqipped, hitachi shocked, steel wheeled, SR-5. I sure have to say there are a lot of SR-5's out there that are looking great and better than other higher factory optioned trims, but I guess that makes them gaudy too.

Suits my needs, I don't regret not getting an OR or Sport even though I could have.

 

I went from a 04 DC TRD Offroad Prerunner to a 16 DC Offroad 4x4 loaded and I couldn't be happier. It's my first brand new vehicle so I went all out. Instead of having to upgrade the stock suspension and add a rear locker and the smaller stuff. I loved my 1st Gen.. until I bought my 3rd.. if you can swing it, get what you want, you'll never regret it... and you never have the damn I shoulda's... NO RAGRATS.

 

Why does texas have their own edition? I think I've seen a silverado with a "texas edition" badge on it too. I live in Cali so I don't see it often but I've seen one or two.

 

Oh I definitely looked at them but just decided it wasn't in the wheel house. That's awesome there's a few of us around with no problems with the truck. But if you go by the forum it seems like only the TRDOR package has all these issues. At least from what I observed. I do have squeaking leaf springs that Toyota won't fix. They opted out with its environmental. I filed with corporate. I'm going to redesign the pads between the leaf as they changed the material from last generation. So not a mechanical failure but flaw in design. But I do take it off-road as well.

 

i'm not 100% sure on if the TRD models still have different seats than the SR5. i know they have different fabric, but when you go to sites like katzkin.com to look for seat covers, they use the same model number seat cover on both the TRD and SR5 variants.

 

I own an sr5 because I have a problem with always wanting something new and better! An TRDOR was not logical for me because I was just going to upgrade wheels, tires, skids, ARB air locker, and have no desire for fancy inside. So I didn't want to wast money on an TRD when everything I paid extra for would essentially be replaced. Minus the crawl control but that's what a locker and skill of for. And my sr5 came with "navigation" it's the Scout GPS thing....

 

There's not much of a difference tbh. I think the only difference is it comes with the side bars, Texas Edition badging, and the Texas Edition floor mats. Mine also had the black wheel package so came with the black T-Force wheels and 265/65/R17 bfg rugged terrain tires, little upgrade from just a basic SR5. Tundras also offers that package, Silverados, F-150s ect...

first post, but long time reader...had my choice and don't regret SR5. Touch screen, leather seats, 4x4, just swapped out wheels/tires and I was good to go.
