Reading about all these crazy rent and house prices makes me glad i live in Az. A million here in Az will get you a bad ass home in the valley for the winter and a bad ass home in the mountains for the summer. With 200k left over for what ever your vices are. :)

based off OP's name, Id drive the truck to a lake and if I didn't catch a bass, id return it. I wouldn't want a truck to drive me bass fishing for no bass...

Here in Carlsbad we rent for $2400 for the one bedroom we have now, and right around the corner they are building houses for from 799,000 to 1.3 million, what the hell. Check the link out. I guess you pay for 75 degrees all year long. I have to get away. on the flip side you are on your way to making 15 an hour at McDonalds by 2020 here so im sure the prices are just going to keep going up.

I got the same house/detached garage setup as you for $740 as month as well, and in SC. Gotta love it.

Not necessarily, it all depends on where you are in the state. I'm looking right now and it'll be around 1200-1300 a month for a studio. 2 bedroom for right around $2200.

That must be a really nice place you live in though. I pay $1500 for a one bedroom a little more inland. I think you are paying to be in a nice neighborhood by the beach.

There isn't really an "American' car company anymore. Ford is as close as you get, but half their stuff is assembled in Mexico. My Tacoma was assembled in Texas. Dodge Chrysler Jeep is owned by Fiat. This is my first new Japanese car, but I've had used ones in the past. I know the big three went through a really tough time in the 80's 90's because of foreign cars, but they are better vehicles now because of it. I work near the Arlington, TX Chevy plant, and I see all kinds of non-GM vehicles in their employee parking lot. When they give you shit, just ask them if their American car will be worth north of 60% of it's value in five years like your Tacoma.

I've actually been looking at houses in the Phoenix area. My big issue is the price range I'm looking at (Under 300K for sure) you get jack shit in terms of garage space. I'm a tinkerer, I need my workshop, not a 2 car garage that is "2 car" in the sense that you can jam 2 midsize sedans mirror to mirror inside and then crawl out the passenger door.

Heck even above 300k there's a lot of houses where the garage is basically a small closet to stuff cars (not trucks) and hide them from the sun.

Check out the Queen Creek/San Tan Valley area. Lots of people in my neighborhood have 3 car garages. Two for the cars and one for what ever they are into. Plenty of homes under the 300k mark lots of house for the price.

Yor SR will be out of place in Scottsdale (unless you're a pool boy) Jk.... But yes your final location will depend on your job. Here in San Tan Valley we are over an hour from Phoenix but we don't have to ever go there so we don't care.

I'm with you man! On top of our regular house, we have a rental, my old (2003) townhouse in a nice gated community here in Paradise Valley/Phoenix 3bed/2.5bath with 2 car garage. Our mortgage is $560/month and we're renting it out for $1200.

our combined mortgages (2) and car payments (2) are under $2500. Not sure if I could ever live in a 1 bedroom for that kind of money.

It all depends on where you are located. I pay $1800 for a 3 bedroom 3.5 bath condo in South Louisiana but paid $1500 for a room in a 3 bed 2 bath condo in Dallas this summer.

I wish people would really think about this minimum wage stuff. Ya it will feel great making that 15 bucks an hour at Mickey Dees, but boy its going to suck when you have to get 3 things off the 5 dollar menu just to get your meal under 20Bucks. the worst part about minimum wage changes are for those who currently are doing "ok" making 15, 16, even 20 bucks an hour, they will not get a raise but yet need to spend more to help companies off set the wage increases. But hey what to hell, go to the golden arches and make 15 bucks an hour has go to have every one feeling good about themselves.
