Installed 4.88 Gears in my 2016

Well about a month ago I was approached by Nitro Gear whom I sell gears for, especially in the Tundra Market. Any how they asked myself and other shops that own 2016 to run the Gears and see how they Liked them. Well needles to say We installed them and loved it! Initially I would have preferred a different ratio like a 4.56 but even with being on the fence about 4.88 i did it and well they run great. The tq off the line is great and on my trip to offload expo I averaged 18.5 with head wind and 20.5 coming back at 80 mph. So meed less to say Im happy. Hopefully another option becomes available.

Im run 275-70 17 on Stealth Custom Series and coming from higher hp vehicles the Tacoma seemed very dull and lacked the umph that i like. Well not to say Im cured but these gears along with the Magnaflow exhaust and AFE Intake have help out alot.

Now if I could just get time to build a Supercharger Kit or Turbo !

-any change in speedo reading?
-how hard to change them out?
-does it mess with any of the OEM sensors for diff locking/Crawl/ETC?

On a side note, where does one obtain some pages to the factory service manual? I need to find specs for setting up the gears. I'm sure I can figure out the diff removal (never taken apart an IFS before) but not the gear setup.

 

What is the difference between the $1,350 kit and the $875 kit?

You have the 8.75 kits with master install kits in stock ready to ship? Just Diffs still shows them a few weeks out. Need a set in my hands within the next 2 weeks to be installed before a trip. If you have them ready to ship, I will snag a set.

 

The gears help make up for the tire size. I assume he is hand calculating not using the dash readout

 

20 mph or 20 mpg i am going back to the nervous hospital and not observing TW.

 

I re-geared a Jeep JK (2013 with Pentastar motor), I was running 37s with 4.56 gearing. The trans stopped hunting for gears and it drove as if it was stock (motor/trans wise). I did not see any change in MPG. However, there was a bit more pep off the line so I probably enjoyed using the skinny pedal a bit more. Don't re-gear for MPG, hell if you're concerned about MPG don't lift a truck and put larger tires on it.

At first, the 4.88 gearing seemed a bit much for 33s but with how tall the autos are, it seems it should work pretty well. I drove my Jeep with 35s and stock gearing for awhile and I will NEVER lift and put larger tires on another truck or Jeep without a re-gear, trust me it makes a HUGE difference in the drive-ability of the vehicle.

What is the rpm difference at speed? I Drive 98% of the time at 75-80.

Is it a night and day difference?
