if someone wants to steal it, they'll steal it.

thieves want to be in and out of there quick.

I believe any type of deterrent is better than anything, and would discourage at some point, the thief who wants an easy out catalytic converter

This would be a good project for one of our site fabricators. Here's my idea.

Get a brass 1/2 tube about 24" long. Cap one end with solder and fill with muratic acid and cap the other end with solder. Attach to CaT with 50 wraps of bailing wire.

The scumb bag thief takes a quick look and says no problem.

Cuts into brass tube, muratic acid splashes in his eyes and he's done.

When you get back to your truck. Just pick up free sawsall. And run over the blind guy standing in the parking lot.

When I worked for Acura years ago I had a customer come in with his 2000 TL and he was telling me the story of him visiting New York City for the first time and woke up one morning and glanced out from about the 6th or 7th floor of his hotel, I can't remember exactly but he saw four guys steel some HID headlights from a guys TL parked on the curb, then after about 6-seconds realized it was his. He said by the time he dialed 911 and spoke to someone they were done and gone.

They used a razor knife and sliced his fender liner to gain acces to the hood release cable. Rest was a four man job. Done in under 40 seconds he said.

It sucks that happened man, I've walked out to my old regular cab during the holiday season to see a shattered window and find my truck emptied of its contents. Truly a terrible feeling.

Hope you get it repaired fast and hopefully not much out of pocket cost wise.

You guys are talking about front and back cats. How many cats are supposed to be in a 2015 prerunner TRD off road? Where specifically should I look for them?

I don't know if GA requires a cat ... but they do check emissions when your vehicle is a few years old to renew your license plate sticker.

They probably have something on the GA EPA website ... or you can google GA vehicle inspections & license tag renewals.

Oh ... I just remembered ... IIRC ... different areas in GA might have different EPA rules due to traffic congestion around the bigger cities.

    Good luck ..

Been down that road before a few times with my old Nissan. But never seen the hack job, it was always the bolt-on cats that they went after. That's some desperation and a sawzall.

Tacoma cat theft is quite common. The ground clearance and realitivly uncluttered exhaust aera make it fairly easy.

I was up north one weekend riding the snowmobile and we happened to ride through a parking lot to see a bunch of pissed off people. Someone had stolen all the caty converters from every truck in the lot. About 20 trucks. Fucking heroin heads. Lucky we were at a cabin. The real problem is whoever the asshole is who is taking them in for scrap. Someone shows up with 20 caty converters with rough cut pipe and the guy just says "seems legit. Here's your crack money!"

Good excuse for a URD Y Pipe. The rear catalytic converters are not monitored by the emissions system, so no CEL. Realistically the front two catalytic converters are doing most of the work, it's California that has burdened the rest of us with the extra parts.

You might have a CEL right now due to how close the sensor is to outside air.

My guess would be some tweaker needed their fix, $20-40 is money they didn't have, they look at easy money and don't care how they get there. I'm sure yours wasn't the only truck that got hit. Depending on the area some hotels are notorious shopping centers for these folks.

It looks like they only stole one. Can someone point me to a diagram that shows how many I am supposed to have, and where they are supposed to be?

This. Mine was stolen the day after I came back from vacation in 2012. I got a new one ($2500!!!) and put the clamp on. No problems since and I know it works because other Tacoma owners have had theirs stolen near me.
