I had read in post that you could tell where a Tocama was built by the first number in the vin. I can't seem to find that post. Where is one with a 5 made

Baja, Mexico plant is highly decorated with awards for excellence.

    But I'm glad.

to add to above response if it was built in Mexico it starts with a "3"

USA built Tacomas will have a "1" "4" or "5"

At this point in manufacturing tolerances I doubt it matters which plant it was built at.

But I do know the Mexico plant uses actual humans where robots would usually be at the Texas plant. So Mexico Tacomas are a higher % of "hand built" than the Texas counter parts..... that may or may not be a good thing though.

Just look at the build spec plate on the driver's side door jam. It'll tell you where and when.

The other sticker is your tire information

Is it built yet ? Because they use dummy vins as place holders untill the build date

I don't think the dummy VINs start with an origin code with manufacture location.

Yes they do its a placeholder untill the vehicle is produced
Odds are that the placeholder starts with the same country code as the actual vin tho

You said yes they do and then said odds are.

So I'll take that as you don't know either.

My dummy or placeholder vin had the first five characters correct. Just FYI mine started with a 5

You know they are just assembly plants, right? Very robotized?

I mean stuff arrives in crates and they put it together. There's not a back room with a bunch of people building motors and transmissions, or a bunch of folks in hair nets zip tying wiring harnesses.

These are mass produced. Not really even custom ordered, regardless of what your dealer tells you.

I know the 17 character placeholder VIN from allocation will decode, so they do have a country code
Weather that's the plant the vehicle actually comes from, I can't confirm because I can't think of a situation where there were multiple plants concurrently building vehicles.

Odds are that it probably does

    Better ?
