Man, sounds like CarPlay really gives you some bad indigestion. Do us a favor and don't download it when these lovely people figure it out for the rest of us. Can't have you taking your eyes off the road to eat your antacids :boink:

If I just wanted directions I wouldn't need waze, any navigation would due but I like to confirm or deny reports like cops or broken down cars. I like to see where those reports are coming up ahead.

Also I pretty much always listen to Spotify while driving and sometimes I like to change songs or find a specific song or playlist. Didn't old people ever "fuck with the head unit" to change their radio station back in the "good o'le days"?

No navigation apps can touch Waze, and yes I need pictures. I drive in a constantly changing construction zone with multiple exits occupying the same lanes, only to split later. A heads up on those changes is worth a picture. If you don't need pictures, don't bother.

Actually if you didn't know it Goggle now owns Waze and is using data accumulated from the Waze app for real time traffic.

Doesn't give me indigestion, its just kinda pricey considering there are only certain apps that can be used in conjunction with your phone and the Waze app is not in that list YET.

So I have been thinking... has there been an update to Entune lately? It's updated over USB... right?

I did, but google Nav isn't nearly as aggressive or quick with rerouting due to said traffic. Also, the police and obstruction alerts are GOLD

I bought a 2016 Tacoma about 15k ago and I love almost everything about the truck but am so disappointed with Entune. There are so many things wrong with it that it overshadows my liking the truck and I'm tempted to trade in for a F150.

With all of Toyota's reputation and commitment to outstanding customer satisfaction they are completely unreachable and deaf on this topic - this one really bad thing completely takes away from the rest of the truck.

But this thread interests me - while I'd love to spend $1500 on a Pioneer Head Unit ... being able to run CarPlay on the current system could completely reverse how I feel about the truck.

I live near and work in Ottawa, the birthplace of QNX, a company I had always admired. Dan Dodge, one of the founders has gone to lead Apple Carplay and I have been in the software industry my whole life. jkcashin you are on to something here - have you done that? Can you boot into CarPlay with the SDK hooks you found above?

If you haven't, how can we rally behind this - find the right people and make this happen? fixing this would make me completely satisfied with my Truck- Toyota, QNX, Entune, CarPlay - is anyone listening?

One of many reasons I'm looking at the SR. I'll just replace the factory HU with something actually good and be fine with it.

Lift kit, weight distribution hitch. Camper shell. Kayak Rack.
Voice only directions are absolutely horrible and I can attest to it from personal experience. I travel the state and east coast up and down like a crazy monkey.

Try to make sense of this:

In a quarter mile take second from left lane then stay in the right lane to turn left. You approach the darn junction on interstate and there are 3 different pull offs, forward, left and right and each road then has left and right and you go like wha? You take the wrong road and find yourself doing a 15 mile one way detour because that is where closest exist is.

Even traveling from airport to my house... sweet lord... I have been doing it for years and you miss 1 turn... bam... end up in a completely different direction. Worst yet I found that siri has huge problem with left and right. It would show picture right but tell left and who can forget roads with like 9 different names.

Having a graphic is a life saver with a capital S.

Entune on 2016 tacoma sucks major arse. I just bought a 2016 long bed double cab and this thing is absolutely useless. Every single app is retarded, navigation thing is pathetic and it is actively using data on top of that. If I am actively using data, I might as well use my iphone.

On my 2008 tacoma I mounted my iphone with a flat adhesive gopro mount to a ram mount for navigation. Google maps was awesome, even rerouted me and updated me on stuff.

In actuality my perfect navigation system would be "RV navigation system". When I am pulling my travel trailer I can not be making zigs and zags. I need a good straight line that gets me there in shortest miles. I really don't like to pull a trailer going 60 when everyone else is doing 80 and cutting me off.

Entune is something that does not belong in a tacoma but replacements are so expensive, I might just keep it there for music and navigate with iphone all over again.

    Sub'd.

The only thing I would recommend for everyone following this: STOP UPDATING YOUR SYSTEMS.

Often, the ways to flash or "jailbreak" your sh*t is to take advantage of security flaws or bugs (which is what they patch).
