You have a check engine light too? I can't remember if you mentioned that before. What's the code?

@Nicklovin you won't pass smog with a CEL so you best get that figured out, I agree with @mercurymullet that it's most likely related to your poor mpg's

Allow me to be the first to ask, you always turn your gas cap until it clicks right?

First of all no the check engine light isn't related at all. How I know, it's a sensor that broke by means of Kyle cutting a wire when we were cleaning out the engine & he was unable to rewire it. Believe he said there was an inline fuse he broke or something; I don't remember the code off hand but when we ran it the check engine light matches up to the sensor

Ya..... luckily just had my regristration done and didnt need smog. But ya I'm going to need to find a replacement for that wire or find a mechanic around here on tw that I can afford :pout:
No shit sherlock lol. :smack:. Usually I twist it until I hear it click a couple times to make sure it's nice & tight
Believe @WileECoyote mentioned the possibility of it being tuned wrong or something...

I'm still curious what the code is, you'd be surprised how it could all end up effecting your mileage.

I've been having these horrid gas issues long before that check engine light got thrown. I would say it was thrown maybe 2 months ago and the gas has been bad for a year at least. Oh also don't a code reader so couldn't tell you what it is :blahblah:

Nick, I have a scantool. I thought you said you already knew what it was? Plus, you also told me that you and Kyle cleaned the MAF sensor with sensor cleaner??? There is a certain way to "spray" that cleaner, just to let you know!!! LOL!!! Spraying it the wrong way might not be of any good??? Also, you still have time to reset/clear your DTC and see if that or 1x other code pops up and nothing else (i.e. narrow it down). If you end up doing that though, it may take a few miles to QUITE a few miles for ALL "monitors" to report back and completing their cycle!!! But yeah, the CEL MUST be FIXED!!! Of course!!!

Also, my first guess would mainly be the MAF or something with the O2's. You did just about everything else and everything still seems to be "fine" other than your mpg's for some reason???!!! Sooo, the reason for my humble opinion on the matter.

I still want the code :gossip: Pep Boys, Autozone or O'Rielleys will read it for free. Just don't ask them to reset it for you, that's apparently frowned upon in CA (I learned by asking)

If no codes were ever thrown up until after Kyle cut that wire, then the fuel filter would be my next guess!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think I'm stating an obvious??? :notsure:

I knew what it was before... I just brain farted and forgot hahaha. Indeed I cleaned the MAF sensor with sensor cleaner, not sure if I sprayed it the right way but I'm assuming so since I got all the gunk out of the sensor. When driving it around the neighborhood we reset the DTC to see if the code would pop up; did it 3 times with the code coming back by the time we hit the next block. :annoyed:

I'll pop by one next time i'm nearby one
That's pretty much the next major thing I want to check, however the location of it is in such a pain in the ass spot :boom:. I was going to address it at mod day with @dtaco06 's help but I had to work a photo gig instead.

By "gunk", you're NOT necessarily looking for just "muddy looking water coming out" you know!!! You want that "wire" inside to be clean on the "air intake side", if you will!!! That is the actual "sensor face" that takes the readings.

I can stop by anytime Nick. I'm NOT that far from you as you know. You just need to let me know when to stop by and I'll be there as soon as I get out of work!!!
