Like others here I purchased the SR5 because I couldn't justify paying for all the gizmos that I'd honestly probably never use. I have Navigation on my phone, don't plan on doing any aggressive off-roading and was going to replace the tires and wheels right out of the gate. I seriously considered the OR 4X4 and could have swung it, but in the end that money was better used elsewhere. The only option that I regret not having is the QI charging pad in the cubby underneath the radio. Small potatoes in my world

I think its funny some people here assume that you couldn't afford a TRD, people don't seem to realize that $1000 is about an extra $10 a month when financing, so the $2-3k more for the TRD would only be $20-30 more a month, I'm pretty sure most could afford that. Lol. For me going to grad school, paying off debt in the process of leaving active duty, was a priority instead.

Most of the trucks in my area are either SR5s or TRD Sports and almost all are shortbeds. I see very few offroads or access cabs.

I got a TRDOR because it wasn't THAT much more than an SR5 with the specs I'd have chosen. I dont go "wheelin" but I live in the pisgah national forrest and I like to get remote to go mountain biking so I was dead set on having a locking diff... we never know the condition of some of the service roads.

Why doesn't anyone own an SR5?

IDK, but I came to own one and couldn't be happier with my choice, specially after all the problems popping up here on the trdor.
But I would have owned one if they would've had a trdor in 4x4 DCLB white, but they didn't. Or a sport or a ltd.

Lucky me I guess, now a have some extra $$ to spend any way i see fit!

But to each their own!

And whatever you end up with...Enjoy!

I have an sr5 and it suits my needs. The sr5 is just the base model for the TRD upgrades. I found nothing special about it except the interior color.I have cement grey interior and it matches well. The sr5 is the way to go if your not climbing mountains the sr5 comes in automatic but can be used as a stick shift, so if you need to get over something it won't gear hunt on you, I also have navigation and parking sonar

Stock height? I wanted a beefier look without spending too much $$. I may just do wheels and tires because from what I've seen a lot of them look pretty good even without a lift!

I can't understand why people assume bigger tires are an "upgrade".

Me too, paricularly when they have a negative effect on acceleration, gas mileage, handling and have to chop the truck to get them to fit.

Sounds like a downgrade to me.

not a fan of light colored SR5 interiors AT ALL... gets too dirty and looks bad overtime if not maintained really well. 3rd gen TRD the seats are black and so is the arm rest.. not to mention better shocks., wheels, tires, headlights, fog lights, navigation, and for the off road package locking DIFF , crawl control, multi terrian select, the list goes on and on why to get and if you spending a bunch of money already u might at well get the good shit too.

I own an SR5, 4x2 black interior. Don't need 4x4 to climb the big "mountains" in FL. Had a Jeep Wrangler before for 4 years and used 4x4...let's see, zero times! I'm pretty sure I can climb the tallest mountain in FL, 98 feet above sea level with my SR5. Not interested in lifting it, or huge tires, or any other mods that create handling problems or just for looks.
I see so many Jeeps and other 4x4 here where the owners spent thousands just to make them look "mean", but the only thing they'll climb is the parking stops at the malls.
Not everyone wants or needs a TRD. But, we are a democracy, so do as you wish.

lol born and raised man. My first truck was a '94 F-150 xlt long bed 5-speed manual lol loved that thing but gas guzzler, did have two tanks though so it was pretty good for long distance trips.
