I have a 2007 Tacoma DC Prerunner 2wd with a A04A rear diff and would like to know what size diff i have in my axle i.e 8"/8.4", 30 spline/27 spline etc..

I like to do some traveling on state or national parks roads and would like the ability of travelling as far as possible with a locker similar to the Detroit TrueTrac locker, the Aussie locker or a Powetrax/Lock Right :)

I have looked into the Aussie and Powertrax option but their catalogs does not include newer model Toyotas and when I wrote to them they told me they did not have an option for my 2007 Tacoma.

However this diff/third member could have been used in an older model Toyota and I would really appreciate if anybody knows this information...

SR5 and TRD sport trucks have the 8.4 diff, compatible w/ the older gen tacos. your gear ratio is 3.73 if your a V6. also the SR5 have an open diff, the sport has a LSD.

TRD ofrroad trucks have a 8.0 diff (also compatible w/ older trucks IIRC) w/ the electronic locker.

all the above info has been covered many times, which you would have found much sooner if you would have searched...;)

SR5 is just a trim package. It has nothing to do with the diff size. All of the diffs are the same size; the measure 8" but are called an 8.4. The e-locker diff has a larger bolt pattern to accommodate the e-locking mechanism, but essentially the same ring and pinion size as a regular third member.

i know that, but an SR5 will not have a LSD or locker, which is why i labeled it that way. the OP used the common ref for the diffs, and i did the same, never said anything about the ring sizes...but good info there. OP is talking about the ability of fitting a locker and never specified what trim he had, so i was trying to cover all basis for him.

5100 set to max, pending LSD and TRD CAI
    Some SR5 does have LSD.

I see your point but the trim package doesn't really matter.

No, the Sports come with the SR5 package. This is where the misconception comes in. You won't find a base model SR5 truck with a LSD
True yosh, you are not mistaken

I just traded in an '06 DC Prerunner V6 SR5, and it had an LSD rear diff.

^ how do you know it was an LSD? was it listed in the window sticker, or did the salesman tell you that?

:) Thank you for all the great help....just to summarize then it is a 8.4", called an 8" w/ a 30 spline.....:) (and I did the searches but all of them refer to offroad, SR5 etc which I beleive did not apply to my truck!!:D)
