    I currently just got all icon in the back, aal(51100), shock(59905p), also the rear hydraulic bump stop(56103)and u bolt flip striker plate(56105). My question is if I go flip do I need to change out any of these parts listed above?

    I spent 99% of time on road. And try to make time to get out of NYC to go offroad. But is really hard 6 days of work and with a toddler and a newborn. So for now all I could do is get my rig offroad ready.

    Yes, this kit is working with dozens of trucks with Dakars. Shock length I'd recommend something around 27" extended, just watch your compressed length doesn't get to long. Check out previous posts from Kumz, littles, HolyHandGrenade

    Hey, the only part I wonder about compatibility with is the shock length extended. Can you tell me that spec? I would hope for 25" min length with a total lift about 2.5" using AAL and the shackle flip. See results from Hoosiertaco a few pages back in the thread, he has the new Tacoma leafs and AAL and it looked great to me.

    This kit with a shock relocate has some serious droop! Bout an inch of downtravel left, tire still on the ground

    Time to share what I have so far. This is a chance for TW members to give input on what you all want the shock relocation to do and look like.

    This is the design that I came up with allowing 2.5" smooth body 14" shocks from FOX and Kings are about 23.4" compressed and 37.4" extended but I may end up going with a single upper position for simplicity and lower cost.
    This fits under the bed without cutting it, but I plan to have 2 holes drilled up through bed wheel well shelf for added stability.
    I want to make the upper mount bolt on, with holes matchdrilled into the frame.
    The lower axle mount can rotate from horizontal down to 45+ degrees without binding on the shock.

    Edit: this shows a worst case scenario, a 14" travel shock with SUA allowing more bump travel than stock and spring over setups are capable of. In this scenario, the lower axle mount has to rotate down below axle tube, showing you can stuff 14" travel 2.5" shocks under the bed, no cutting.

    If you look at adjustment holes every inch, the upper mount could drop 4" or the lower axle mounts can rotate up, or both, for lifted trucks or significant droop travel.

    Bolt-on hmm? I'd weld that puppy just to be safe, or maybe I'm just not sure what I'm looking at yet. Otherwise, hot-diggity! This will be a great option for SUA LT setups that don't want to cut through the bed.

    At first thought I would agree that welding to the frame would probably be preferable to bolting, but after thinking a bit more, there's probably more stress on the rear shackle hanger than there would be on a shock mount. I mean, the shock adds resistance to the movement of the axle and if the axle moves quickly (like hitting a high speed bump) the resistance could be quite high. But ultimately the shock moves freely without significant weight, unlike the shackle hanger that sees the full weight of the vehicle and then some.

    Adjustable is a great idea. With the other shock mounting options out there you have to get close with your shock length and then kind of fine tune with bump stop spacers. With adjustable shock mounts you could possibly simple move the upper shock mount. Cool stuff.

    Maybe you can offer a weld it yourself kit to cut costs? Most guys considering this mod probably have at least some welding experience.

    That's what I'm banking on! :D

    First of all, let me just say I'm terrible at explaining things.

    Looking at the diagram I have one concern and a possible second.

    1) The lower shock mount (I'm assuming the axle is the circle pictured), is lower than the axle. Not a huge deal, but even with or above the axle tube would be ideal for ground clearence.

    2) Not sure if I understand how the shock tower is mounted. Let's assume we're looking at 2"x4" tubing, for arguments sake. If the tower sits with the 2" side against at the frame, with the 4" side away or towards the tire, you only have 2" against the frame holding all the force from the shock/axle. I have a CJ5 which only had the small 1.5" wide shock mounts against the top of the frame and after some time, they've cracked and ripped through the frame. I'm no engineer, but it makes me a touch uneasy.

    If the diagram actually shows the 4" wide tube against the frame, then this is another story. Not to call out another company, but essentially if you look at the BAMF mount, this would be ideal compared to the 2" mount I'm speaking about.

    While Fox and King shocks are popular, and great shocks, making it possible to use a more budget friendly shock will increase your customer appeal.

    I have a short bed double cab. I am pretty much against anything going into my bed regarding shock mounts. There is limited room, but just enough for my needs, but every inch matters.

    I apologize for the lame 2D drawing, it's hard to see what's going on here. It's all brake formed 3/16" steel. The contact patch on frame is 5.8" × 7.6" if you look closely to left of "bottom of frame". All the measuring is done, very confident there, I'm just talking my time with turning the measurements into final design.

    Yes, FOX and King and Icon are great, but I am sure it hurts to drop $800+ on rear shocks, and that is another reason I wanted adjustment, to fit affordable rod end Bilsteins or $50 old school shocks like Procomp has. A lot of owners are using these trucks on slow trails in 4x4, so they mainly want the flexibility.

    Super cool! I'm in the camp of not wanting to cut into the bed to fit in some longer shocks, so I definitely appreciate that aspect. Personally I wouldn't have all of those adjustment holes in there, if anything just provide a template with the parameters for that hole pattern identified so someone can drill those out if they want. That should cut out cost and keep people from fiddlef*cking with things and blowing up their shocks cause they didn't understand what they were doing. I'm also skeptical that a couple of bolts through the bed liner will provide much if any additional support.

    Does this utilize the stock lower shock mount? Or does it require welding a new one on?

    Honestly I think the bolt on is probably sufficient provided the shock bucket is welded. The shear strength of grade 8 bolts should be more than adequate to withstand the force, I'd be more worried about frame deflection than I would the bucket itself. But it's not like the guys who want to weld it to the frame can't do that either.

    Any minimum backspacing requirements with your kit?

    Thanks, the holes cost nothing to laser cut, reduce weight, and easy for user to adjust, if I settle on adjustable design.
    I'd say 80-90% of force on mount is vertical up and down, so bolting to bed should add just a little stability and also option to add a crossover bar.
    There is a sturdy crossmember in the frame right where the mount bolts on (or welds on) so I am not concerned about deflection.
    Yes, the lower axle mounts are weld on to fit 1.5" rod end shocks with 1/2" bolts. I'd estimate at this early stage a 3/4" spacer might be needed.

    I think a mount to the bed is not a bad idea. If you've ever drilled into the bed you'll find it is quite thick, and that the dust is extremely itchy for a very long time. I believe it could add a measure of stability. As Eric said it will not be relied upon as a major structural member, only it will offer some additional bracing.

    I really like the adjustable idea, I hope that aspect makes it to the final design.

    Bolts will be sufficient I'm sure to mount the tower. The metal of the frame will likely fail before the bolts would. The single shear strength of a 1/2" grade 8 bolt is about 17,600 lbs, and tensile strength of the same bolt is around 21,300 lbs. Multiply by 4 mounting bolts and there is no question it will hold up. Even 3 bolts would do it easily.
