Since the master tech's know so much...no offense but I had to clue mine in on the LCA TSB, Transmission TSB and my rear diff issue, all of these have been reported by 17 owners. Not to crap on your post or new truck, just saying, I don't think much or anything was addressed. There's a 17 owner who's transmission was 3/4 low in his new owner post. Might verify yours to. Congrats on the new truck, even with its issues I still love mine.

This is good to know, I appreciate the feedback. It's been a while since I have spent time on here looking over the issues but what all do you recommend I have them double check and confirm. Thanks

While we're on the subject, I guess it's an easy check you can do yourself?

    Thanks

I would have them check the transmission fluid and perform the TSB update for delayed P to D and R to D, 1st to 2nd. I would check your zerks and make sure they greased. I would have them order you the plugs for your LCAs as it appears 17s still have the same holes causing the whistle in cross winds. That should cover everything. Fingers crossed you don't have a diff howl like some of us. Congrats though, still a good truck.

There is a procedure someone wrote up for the transmission fluid, you have to get it to the right temp to verify and truck has to be cold to start the procedure, never did it myself, just had my buddy that works at the dealer verify for me. My zerks were a bit dry which I did in my driveway and installed the LCA plugs myself as well. The TSB for the transmission is a software update so dealer has to do that one.

well I sold my sport 4x4 crew with tecj due to seats after 2 months got a Colorado diesel in March and miss that truck. I am looking at getting a 17 and wanted the off road anyway and plan on using it to play and keeping my Colorado. I put on 38k a year anyway and think will trade in the 04 gx Lexus we kept with 95k on it as third vehicle. it never gets driven. That way I can split the miles some. I just hope to figure way to get seats to work better for me. I loved that Tacoma otherwise and is why I an thinking of getting another for off road toy

Along your drive shaft there should be zerk fittings for grease, they have been coming dry from the factory (no bueno). Pic below.

Ok got it, thanks a lot for the feedback. Now I won't sound like an idiot when I ask for all this to be checked. I feel
Good about this truck over the 16 off-road I had, the drive feels different and this one is much more loaded than the off-road I had.

Cool man! They are all easy fixes if you do run into the few issues these trucks seem to have (shaking my head at Toyota as I keep giving them my money, lol and know they are better than this). I needed a new rear diff, but after a polite phone call to Toyota they took care of restoring my confidence in buying from them. Enjoy your Sport!

I have a 2017 and have no issues with the transmission, howling, shifting. It's great. TacomaWorld can be like WebMD. You start reading and you get convinced you have a lemon. Do the math, how many Tacomas sold vs negative posts on TW. There are a lot of trouble free owners out here.

My advice, stay off the forums and enjoy your truck. I'll guarantee you'll have less issues

It's very tempting to stay off but I must admit that out of all the forums I have joined, this one is one of the better ones. Lots of good information and people actually seem like they know what the hell they are talking about unlike other forums.

Yea I also think the 2nd gen had its share of problems at first but Toyota seems to support all buyers and will not let this truck go under because of a few problems, this is way too important for the company. I was actually considering the 2nd gen after I had the problems and could not justify 32k for a low mileage 15. I know the resale value is crazy on those, I'm hoping that the 3rd gens are equally as good.

I'm worried about resalenbecause of all of the problems this gen has.

At some point people are going to stop giving Toyota credit for work they did years ago.

I don't think it will be as good as the 2nd gen but it should still be pretty good. I know the problems worry people but I think Toyota will make it right. It's a good sign that many dealers still can't keep them in stock.
