Safety Recall E02, 2005 - 2011 leaf springs

No the dealership is only required to install OEM leaf packs and hardware. Nothing more. They are wanting to charge him for transfer of all his aftermarket parts, which is fully understandable.

 

Well then yes that's understandable.

 

They were not trying to charge me to transfer the aftermarket parts to my truck, I agree that would be understandable. They charged me to give me my add a leafs back because they had to remove them. They left them in the bed of my truck. It is ridiculous if you ask me. They have no incentive to reason with me because I have never been there before, and I probably tipped them off that I would not ever be returning.

They also did not do the alignment, go figure. I started a "claim" with Toyota because as these things go I have found that you need to make a fuss like a child to get them to do there jobs sometimes unfortunately.

I understand that as a business it is very hard to keep 100% of your customers satisfied, and I hate to be that one thorn in the A$$ customer, but I just can't stand by and hand my card over when they didn't even do the job right in the first place.

 

They don't get reimbursed by Toyota to take leaf packs apart.

 

For those of you who had the replacement done, did your rear suspension stiffen up a bit? I put some wood in my truck today and was sagging like a mofo and the leafs were bent like a bow. I'm having them replaced in the morning hoping for an improvement. Thanks!

I had the upgraded harsh ride springs in my 2007. When the dealer installed the wrong "soft ride regular" springs, I lost about 2.5 in in the back. Had to adjust the headlights because they blinded oncoming traffic.
After installing the correct harsh ride replacement springs I'm down about 1 in so far and the springs are still settling.
The recall springs are made of cheap chinese scrap steel. And weaker than the originals.

Alright hell ya I hope it stiffens up. Hardly had shit in the bed and was leaning hard today. I'm looking at tundras in the morning when my springs are getting replaced.

Quick update for those of you who had the "Harsh Ride" TSB done in the past, and now think you got the wrong leaf springs installed on recall...

• I had the "Harsh Ride TSB" performed back in 2010.
• I took my truck in for the leaf spring recall last week to the SAME dealer that did the TSB.
• The dealer installed 04005-34304 springs & I lost stiffness as well as quite a bit of height in the rear.

I called the dealer today (Toyota of Colorado Springs) and sure enough, they admitted the mistake. TSB trucks should get 04005-34404 springs.

They told me that the problem is Toyota upgraded the TSB service #, and it is this upgraded TSB # that is referenced in the leaf spring recall bulletin. If you got the TSB done a couple years back, that old TSB # won't sound the alarm & it will get MISSED by parts when they order the new ones.

If you got the "Harsh Ride" TSB done, and want to MAKE SURE you get the right springs, you have to be DILIGENT in pointing this out to your service adviser & make sure it's in the notes. Otherwise you'll end up with the recall parts for the standard 3-packs. In my case, the dealer will be swapping them out again. But I have to wait another 8 weeks for them to come in.

 

I'm in a similar situation. 34304 was originally ordered. I discussed with them and we agreed 34404 needed to be ordered so they did. Turns out they installed the 34304, but the 34404 is on the work order. Currently waiting for another 34404 to be delivered to get them installed. They claim the original box was packed with the wrong springs....

 

I got the new springs put on today. Holy crap does it feel way better and way more firm. Definetly happy so far. I use to hop into the bed and it would sag, it didn't hardly at all tonight. Might reconsider my trading in for a tundra now

 

For mine yes it sure did but not just a bit, it really siffend-up, became sturdier.

 

Yup had the same results. I read somewhere that the old TSB springs were weak and not as good as the new ones. Super happy. Now I'm second guessing my idea in trading in for a tundra

 

I never had a harsh ride recall, but they did install the 04005-34104 and 04005-34304 on mine with this recall, and mine are fine. 6 clips and a decent ride with no sag since May.

 

Just had the recall done today on my regular cab. No change in ride height at all, no higher no lower. Then again I never had the TSB done, and they just replaced the old 2+1 leaf pack

 

So let me preface this with an admission that i am by no means a suspension guy. I know how the system works and the parts involved but have never tore into one myself and am not overly familiar with terminology.

That being said, just had mine inspected at Toyota of Louisville and the guy got me all setup, parts ordered, penciled me in for the 4th for the service and said he would have my SIX leaf setup installed in about 3 hours when they come in. Now am i safe to assume he just mean 3x2 so he ordered 6 or am i missing something? Ive read this thread and checked the pictures to see what looks like to the untrained eye a 3+1 setup. Can anyone clarify for me? I trust that what i am getting standard for the recall, so did he mean 3x2 (3 on each side), is it actually called a 6 setup, is one of us really confused?

I asked him to clarify and was told that im getting the standard recall install from toyota, a 6 leaf setup. Just said 'Well alright then' and headed out

 

Just had my leaf springs replaced yesterday with the 34304 springs and my truck now sits level side to side. I took some before and after measurments from the center of the wheel to the fender and these were my results.

Before - Center of Wheel to Fender
Drivers Rear = 20 1/4" (One leaf was broken in half and half of it was removed)
Passenger Rear = 21 1/2"

After - Center of Wheel to Fender
Drivers Rear = 21 3/4"
Passenger Rear = 21 3/4"

I'm hoping these springs don't sag too much after some use but either way they are way better that what they replaced. Now I just need to get some Firestone Ride-Rites.

 

I had my leaf springs replaced yesterday. I wish I had done some baseline measurements so I could state facts but I just dropped it off and forgot about it. The dealer did too, as they forgot to call me when it was ready and they forgot to send their CS van to pick me up and it was almost dark and I started to get pissed off so I called them and ...(but that's another story). As I was driving home I went fast over a RR crossing and didn't even feel it. Truck was so smooth and today out and about, same thing. It rides great though it appears that the back of my truck sits higher than previously. I would normally equate "higher" with "stiffer" but I don't think that is the case in my truck. I will have to wait till I load a motorcycle or carry a bunch of stuff before I can report on the "loaded" characteristics.

 

Okay, so I had some time to look at my new leaf springs today and I noticed that the springs that they were on the recall are not the ones they installed. The work order says they installed the 34304 springs but they actually installed 48220-04290 on the drivers side and 48210-04650 on the passenger side. I am very grateful that Toyota replaced these under warranty and am happy with these springs. My ride has improved dramatically and as I posted in a previous post, these springs actually solved my Tacoma lean issue with the side to side now being even.

My question is should I be concerned that they installed the wrong springs? Will these springs settle more than the recall springs (34304)? I haven't hauled anything with the new springs but are they not as strong as the 34304? Thanks in advance for you help!

 

The springs you got are the correct ones. 34304 is the Kit number. Inside the kit is two leaf springs each with their own part numbers. The two part numbers you show on your truck correlate with the 34304 kit.
