A Toyota extended warranty is a Toyota extended warranty and all dealers should work with it.

I believe it's actually against the law for the dealer to refuse to do so. I don't remember if that's part of Magnuson-Moss or a different law; easy enough to look up if someone is concerned.

Now if you buy a third party warranty, such as the ones offered by SouthEast Toyota dealers (and GST too I believe), they'll certainly be recognized by every dealer in that region, but I don't know how easily they're used elsewhere. Worst case you might have to pay up front and file a claim for reimbursement.

My major issue with the warranty is getting them to actually use it to repair anything. Most issues seem to be hand waived by the dealer as being a normal characteristic of the vehicle-- yes that includes my brakes squeaking

I searched threads here with not much luck. But there are other questions about the extended warranties that are difficult to find answers too without asking people that have actually purchased and needed, or not, the extended warranty. Real world info is priceless.

As for buying... a lot of people who buy these things do so at purchase time so they get it financed. In reality though I believe the Toyota warranty is purchasable any time before the original 3/36 is expired. If buying with the purchase, be sure to understand how the proration works if you should later sell the vehicle and get a prorated refund of any remainder of the policy.

AFAIK, these can be purchased from any Toyota dealer (though GST/SET is different, selling Fidelity warranties not Toyota) -- the caveat though is Toyota dropped the hammer on Internet sales of warranties and now you have to visit the dealer in person to sign the papers. It may well be worth it if you can get a deal and buy it sometime while you're travelling out of state if in GST/SET.

Should you buy? That's a very individual thing. Lots of factors to consider.

With all the expensive electronic shit on vehicles today its probably worth buying if you can get a good deal.

Better make sure those expensive electronic thingies are actually covered though...

Remember that the Big Print giveth and the fine print taketh away.

I haven't dug into the details at this point, I'm just speaking generally. More info at https://www.toyotafinancial.com/pub...le_service_agreements/new_vehicle?plans-new=1

Something else is that you are paying for an extra 2 yrs warranty over the 3/36. So this in itself is pricey for years 4 and 5. So really to get bumper to bumper for those 2 extra years you need the Platinum. Wow, lots of money.

My platinum was free 8 years 125k miles. Somebody was selling VSAs from a Toyota Lexus dealer in Louisiana IIRC. Search forum for Toby and VSA. He was selling platinum for under 1300 or 1500

Huge mark up on these at dealers usually. It's a big money maker for them.

Best bet wait until your third gen piles up the inevitable issues (howling rear diff, squeaking leaf springs, hood adhesive failure, CPS failure) then call corporate and get a free warranty. You don't have to buy it right away. Usually as long as it's before 36k miles

If you haven't got your new truck yet, its hard to read the warranty docs. The web site fixes that!

Thats exactly my concern. Well yes I see you have the warrenty, however due to bla bla bla it is not covererd, or yes that normal for a vehicle this age.

I agree with your later post Smitty, well some what. Wait for the first couple years, see what happens, then purchase before your 3 years is up.

Yep, I'll also wait a couple years before seriously looking into extending any warranty. I also am in the situation where I have a FWS backed lifetime/unlimited-miles powertrain warranty; the dealer I bought from includes it on all new vehicles. So a lot of the "makes it go" stuff is already covered for as long as I own the truck.

Those Dealer lifetime things are crap because you will have to have all your maintenance done at that dealer or it will be void.

No you just have to prove that all the maintenance is done on time, they can not force you to use their mechanics. At least in Maine

I know that applies to Factory Warranties but a Dealer sponsored one can impose stipulations.
