How funny! I got the '16 Taco and the Hubs bought me the TRD wheels for it. He had (IMO) ugly silver 4R wheels. Made the swap and, I agree, they look great on his truck! Sold the old wheels to a nice guy with a 1st gen 4R. All he had were steel...

awesome, i think they look a lot better on the 4runner than the taco, your pic helps immensely... i'm going for the 17" 4runner trd pro wheels as well (if that is what you were talking about too), i think they look great on these trucks. the original 4runner wheels are all corroded and nasty so they will look great!

I've still got an eye out on your trailers! As avid backpackers this is our first venture into 'campers.' Loving it immensely so far!

Well were headed to Florence on Friday so hopefully we get out on time! We won't mind either way though. Coming from Phoenix we actually get excited when it rains and think its beautiful. That's why we choose spend allot of our time in this part of the country. We'll just look ridiculous wearing parkas while everybody else is still in shorts lol

I built a simple platform using notched 2x8 boards and some 3/4" ply. Wrapped the top in carpet and it turned out great. I hated using my thermarest as it would slide all over and I was about to plunk down on a truck bed sized paco pad when I stumbled across this IKEA futon mattress mentioned in another forum I'm on that is the perfect dimensions for a long bed taco. I never saw it mentioned when I was searching for platform builds on here so I'll throw a few pics up.

    It's this mattress: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20102074/#/20102074IMG_1402.jpg
    IMG_1401.jpg

The best part is that the back third or so closest to the tailgate folds up so you can set stuff in there without getting it nasty.

    IMG_1403.jpg

It has a grey fabric cover on it but I think I'll find another cover I can put on that is water resistant so the dogs don't ruin it. It's about the same dimension as a full size bed. Feels nice and firm so far, and only 90 bucks so wayyyyy cheaper than a paco pad!

i have plenty of room to almost fully sit up, i can prop myself up against the front part of the cab area pretty comfortable.. beats setting a tent up in the rain or late at night anyway! I'm only 5'8", wouldn't want to be too much taller with this set up - a tall topper would've been better but i chose looks over function i guess ;)

Lots of different ways, I use different tents, tarps, etc based on trip length. When its not work-related I truck camp or use my camper van.20160709_071517.jpg 20160709_071430.jpg

Looks good Jen! I'm 5'8" as well making the same platform in my MGM AC. With the weight of the shell and the platform and the mattress, is the rear sitting low? I have stock suspension...

I'm also curious: that futon is 74" long. I've been looking at some 75" long trifold mattresses. Do you think I would have to cut them down?

Thanks! I'm happy with the platform, plenty of room at our height! With just the topper and platform it doesn't noticeably sag too much... but when loaded up with the 2 dogs and bikes on top and camping stuff, it is definitely a bit lower.... doesn't look overly saggy but I can for sure feel it in the suspension back there. A lot mushier, but I know I'll upgrade the springs, shocks etc soonish for some more lift but day to day it's not terrible. The weight helps when it gets snowy and icy tho!

I can just shut the tailgate with the 74", I'm sure you could make the 75 fit but would have to smoosh it forward to shut the tailgate. Depends on how compressible it is.

Is it a trick of the camera angle making that food hang-sack look real close to the tree trunk?

Food hang is for marmots, this is at 11,300' and the bears are at the 8800' ski area garbage cans.

First outing with the RTT. Slept like a baby. I need to play with the ladder more. It folded down a little funky.

Thanks! I'm digging it. My previous truck was silver and I'll say it didn't show the dirt half as much as this blue.
