    If I were to guess why the compressed and extended length changed, I would probably say Bilstein just selected a shock they already manufacture, made a part # change and are now calling it the new 5100 for 3rd Gen. So why bother with the change???? You start selling these and see if they take off and are a hit Bilstein jacks up the price.

    If there was truly a reason to change the extended and collapsed length why are all the other manufacturers using the same flippin product AND why was Bilstein so happy to use the 2nd Gen 5100 early on before indicating they were going to change the shocks?

    I think what youre seeing is the top 887 is info for the 2nd gen. Bottom is 3rd gen. Both 888 are 3rd gen.

    I agree sees funny the way they wrote it.
    Bottom 888 is for 5100 set at first notch giving the extra .5 inch.

    Stock 3rd Gen comes 1 inch taller than stock second gen. 887 lifts 3 inches for 2nd Gen vs 2 inches for 3rd gen because of the different stock heights. Both come gens come to about the same height with the 887 or any of the lifts.

    Toytec has a good write up on the 3rd Gen section. I believe it's in the sticky section.

    No Problem. I am sitting with a 2016 sport suspension in my garage and i am going to bolt it to my 2015. Just dont know if a 1/2 top spacer with the Hitachi's or 5100's set at 1.1 or 1.55 would be the best way to go. Choices Choices Choices.....

    did u get the new 3rd gen bilsteins?

    just depends on how much of a lift u want.
    on a 15 trd i'd go with the 2-2.5" lift using the ome springs on billstiens set at 0

    o then i'd just use the 16 suspension with a .5-1.0" spacer.

    or shock set at the lowest setting .65 i think?

    So we do plan to put together a chart so its easier to follow, for now we are recommending people call us. What you guys need to consider is the ZERO setting on both 2nd and 3rd gen shocks are speced out differently, I think this is what's causing confusing. The 3rd Gen Tacoma 5100s will provide more initial compression thus yielding more lift over the older 5100s despite the shorter extended length. In the description the first portion describes lifts for both 2015 and 2016 (the shocks work for both Gens) using the older 5100 shocks. The second portion will provide the anticipated lifts for the 2016 + Tacomas using the newest 5100s.

    But yeah note taken and I'll see if we can provide a little more clarification on this until we get that chart complete.

    Do to the difference in coils do the gens ride different at similar notches?
