question... Even with the tuner, we still need to go to Toyota to get the reflash?

No sir. The Bully Dog handheld tuner will come with the proper tune for the Magnuson supercharger kit. There are detailed instructions in the kit.

You don't have to leave it in the vehicle at all times, but the Bully Dog does have some nice gauges to read. Here is the install for the normal Bully Dog handheld tuner:

But aren't they practically the same as the TRD Supercharger or what's the difference?

    ...too much shit to list.
Magnuson used to manufacture TRD blowers and Toyota used it's own software flash using TechStream.
The blower, fit kit, etc is identical except the TRD badging. The only thing that's different is the software flash.

I understand that but he's saying the Toyota reflash doesn't work with this kit

I stand corrected as I just read through the instructions and the handheld tuner does have to be mounted in the vehicle. My apologies for that incorrect information earlier, but the gauges are nice on the Bully Dog system.

Yes that is correct. The tuner is needed to go back to stock if needed.

There are slight differences where the flash does not work from Toyota and Magnuson did a lot of R&D to get the handheld tuner that is included in the kit.

That the cool part. With the Toyota reflash you can't.... unless you get another stock ecu and have the dealer reprogram it to the stock setup.

I am still on the fence about this. Lots of $$$ for a mod that is 100% for fun and doesn't have any major practical uses but if the list gets close to 20 I will probably jump in to make it happen.

If you haul, tow or have full armor then the extra horsepower and torque is practical. If not, then yes it is for fun! I know putting on my rear bumper from CBI, the truck is a little more sluggish. Putting on headers and re-gearing for me is in the future.

I do have full armor, tow a small trailer weekly, and haul aluminum extrusion/plate every other day. The truck is no race car doing so but I can easily go the speed limits and have no problems accelerating. Sure the supercharger would make it really nice to drive and even more fun on the weekends but is a lot of money. Hence my reasoning for being on the fence.

The want is there, I just can't quite find the need.

Lol wut. This has always been the case - superchargers ain't cheap you know.
    lol stop.

According to the TRD s/c thread the bully dog tuner is a POS. But looks like that's the only way to run it now; even though some recent buyers can reflash at various dealers on the DL.

    ^ = NEED.

Once you've driven one you'll find it a lot easier to start justifying the need for one. LMK if you're around Sandy/Draper and you can drive mine around the block.
