    Howdy folks,

If you didn't read my first post this is my first time on this forum. I tried looking to see if there was anything on rear lockers for the 3rd generation but I may have missed the thread. If so, I apologize.

I have the sr5 2wd and want to make the most out of my truck. I have talked with former off-road enthusiasts and they said a rear differential locker is the best way to go. But I haven't found anything about a rear locker for the 3rd gen. Can I have a dealer install an electronic one? Or should I wait for ARB to put one out?

    Thanks!

ARB would be the company to reach out to. I know some 3rd gen sport guys have put ARB air lockers into their rear diffs. Not sure on the 2wd SR5 trucks though but I'm sure there's an option

    ARB has already released it.
Its the same as the 2nd gen for your model (unless yours is standard which is the 8.75" diff)
E locker will probably cost you the same.
    Get the ARB.

Yeah Toyota doesn't sell the e-locker separately, only way to get a Toyota e-locker would be to swap out the rear with one that already has one. Be easier and probably cheaper to just go with an ARB

I'll definitely look into ARB! I was researching and the off-road has an 8.75" axle, if I read correctly. I think mine has the same. Not totally sure. I'll contact ARB though.

    Mine is automatic.

Does anyone have insight how how much it might be to have the ARB locker installed?

Well, it's $990 just for the air locker, that doesn't include the compressor, I wouldn't be surprised if they charge you 6 hours labor at ~$100. I'm guessing your are easily mid $2,000.

That's about what I was thinking it might be. It would be worth it though, yeah?

Best mod you can do to your truck to make it more capable off-road, short of selling it for a 4x4.

Before I decided on the Off road I was thinking sport and just add an ARB, when I talked to a few different shops both said its about a 2 day job, if you have them doing everything.

Mount compressor, set up switches and install locker.
I was looking at upwards of$2800CND before tax

    Several things to consider.

Do you plan on going with larger tires? Then you'll likely want/have to regear. It would be best to regear at the time of the ARB install and only pay for labor once.

Do you know how to operate a socket wrench or impact gun? Take the third member out yourself and save at least $300 in labor. It'll only cost you a tube of RTV and maybe an hour of time each to remove and install it. A rear end is super easy and not too messy. Plus, the shop can realistically give you a day turnaround time if you schedule everything appropriately.

How soon do you need/want this done? ARB lockers and compressors are expensive. If you are patient enough or not in such a rush, wait until ARB does the deal where you get a free compressor with purchase of a locker, or look in the classifieds here or at pirate until one pops up. That'll also give you time to get everything you need for a regear also, and time to do the appropriate research to learn how to remove and install a third member, if you don't know how.

I had 2 thirds done at the same time, locker and regear. It was around $300 in labor for each third at my local shop, and that's with me removing and installing the thirds.

I'm curious,i noticed that when lockers are mentioned selectable lockers are always mentioned.
Is there an automatic locker for the rear end.I have the factory locker in my off road but over the
years have always run Detroit lockers in my vehicles.

It's a lot of money but the ARB air locker has a few benefits that the Toyota E-locker doesn't.
