Let me try just posting a new thread as it seems, 1) I can't find am answer among all the four-wheeling applications or 2) can't seem To escape the sarcasm and disdain of other long time members of this forum who seem to think everyone should already know everything and should have an unlimited budget to apply said expected knowledge .

So if you don't fall into either of those categories maybe just maybe I can find some
    Trustworthy advice on the following:

I don't 4wheel and need to update a few suspension components (all around. Front and rear) I have looked all over other threads - but most are all about replacing UCAs, LCAs and high-end performance reservoir style shocks and stuff I don't need. My application would be everyday driver occasionally hauling heavy in the bed and light towing and light off-road ( to get to some remote camp sites- no deep water/mud- nothing really steep or that serious)

So I just need a good recommendation for 1) replacement coilovers and rear shocks. 2) whether I should keep the stock springs/coils and just replace the shock and bushings/rubber or purchase the whole assembly (i.e. Complete coilover pre-loaded) forgive me if I am not using the exact terminology - I assume you know what I am describing; if you really are about helping.

Are you wanting any lift ? Or just looking to change shocks out and keep stock height?

Thanks!! Not necessarily, if it is incidental then ok. Really just keep stick height as it is a prerunner and navigates well for all I need, just want to replace with better than Stock.

Can't really go wrong with Bilstein 5100 all the way around. Upgrade from stock but maintain stock height. That's what I'm running on my truck and they are definitely good enough for what you're looking for.

As for coils, I would stick with the stock coil if you're not wanting any type of lift. This is where I went to get all of my things. Really good customer service.

The standard 5100 with OME coils is a great ride on road IMO. My 885s are a little softer riding than stock coils set at 1.75" were. Both setups gave me the exact same lift (2.5" on my Access Cab 4.0 4x4).

If you just want to level it and get a better ride, put your stock coils on 5100s at .85.

For hauling much weight without much lift, I highly recommend Firestone Ride Rite airbags with Daystar airbag cradles. You air up when you are going to haul weigh, and air down for a stock ride when empty. If you get a little more lift on the front than intended, you can add air to level the rear. I did this for a couple years before getting a new leaf pack.

Put 5100s in rear too - stock shocks suck.

If you don't need extra lift for off-roading or scoring pussy, stick with stock height. Increasing height will marginally impact your MPG and increase wear and tear on your components. Not to mention you would need a new alignment and may wind up causing trouble with your needle bearing, driveline angle vibrations, etc.

Get 4 new shocks, Bilstein 5100 is a good shock, good price, and a marginal upgrade over stock. If you want to go cheap, there are always people selling their stock shocks used because they upgraded their suspension.

There actually is lots of good info in some of the stickied threads in the suspension section. I find you get good responses in this forum if you educate yourself first with the search function, then when you have a question where you're looking for advice, include all the relevant info so people can give you an informed opinion. Don't get sucked in by smart-asses.

Sounds like from the first response and yours since I am not looking for ride height or p***y I will go with 4 new Bilsteins all around and new rubber(the small round bushings at the top of where the coils is seated)

Thanks to all! I really tried to find the answer in other posts and really appreciate and respect your patience and recommendations! Maybe another 2 years I will do some heavy mods to the suspension or who knows maybe I will have picked up a cheap 1st gen that I can really gear up.

You can't go wrong with the Bilstein 5100s. Not very expensive, better ride than stock, and you can bump up the front end an inch or two while you're at it to level it out.

Will the 5100s also fix taco lean? I am in the same boat and weighing my options.
