I'm in the market for a new ride. I'm on my third Tacoma and want something different. I'm down to a Tundra and F150. I know this is a Toyota website so there is a little bias but what do you think is the better truck. Also, for one's who have went full size route from a Tacoma. Do you miss your Tacoma and what pro/cons have you experienced?

What's the reason for wanting full size?

A few reasons. I've had an 05 Tacoma, an 07 and my '11 that I have now. I want something different. I really am not a fan of the third gens so I'm limited into by that. Plus, I pull a 24 foot ponton and I'd like to have a little more giddy up when is behind the truck.

What year are you looking at as far as tundra or f-150? No Chevy?

I've driven both the Ecoboost and the Tundra with the 5.7. Both have good and bad things to me.

I almost bought a new tundra before I picked up my used '12 earlier this year. Those platinum tundras are sweet, but I spend 1/3 for my Tacoma.

Gas mileage makes me sad on the tundra but the larger gas tank on the premium models would be so much nicer.

I was thinking tundra or f-150 too. I'm glad i saved and went with the '12.

Previous owner put in weather techs, bed mat and heated leather seats. I had an 07 before and the '12 feels familiar but it's better in a lot of little ways.

I've got a 14' tundra and it's been awesome. Just hit about 45,000 miles and it's been a great truck, havent had a single problem. I consistently pull heavy trailers for work and it does very well. Also pull about a 20' wakeboard boat during the summer and it barely feels like theres anything behind me. You can expect to get 11 city and I get 14-16 highway max. It's a limited, offroad package, crewmax, short bed with the 5.7. While towing you will probably get 10 mpg or less. It sure is fun to step on the gas pedal in that truck though.

Also own a 2007 Tundra, as my Tacoma won't pull my 8,000# travel trailer. Tundra is a beast. Just a a tad over 65K trouble free miles, half towing. Suggest you test drive anything your are considering, make sure the truck specs fit your requirements. After that, buy the most you can afford - lol

If you go ford, go v8. More reliable and less expensive things to break vs ecoboost.

So this is from someone who has a 15 f 150. I love it. The Eco boost absolutley flys. Great fuel milage. 23-26 depending how I drive. And the best part all the body panels are aluminum so never have to deal with rust

I've had 1st gen and 2nd gen tacoma's, current DD is a '14 Tundra 5.7 CM 4x4 TRD. Room and power in the Tundra doesnt even compare to a Tacoma, but it is harder to drive in the city.
@Paul123 is pretty much spot on with the MPGs. I'm lifted 3/2 and on 35's and I see 8-9 towing down the freeway typically (9000lbs), and empty the truck alone get about 12 in town and 15-16 highway. The 5.7 has great power, just a bit thirsty.
Compare MSRP on the 2 trucks, the Tundra will be significantly cheaper, even with the Ford rebates that you can almost always snag. The difference in price initially and higher resale down the road makes the Tundra a better buy IMO, plus they're tried and true drivetrains and overbuilt which means it'll last. If you expect to only have the truck a few years you'll see much less depreciation in the Tundra I think, which is something I'd consider. I only bought mine new because a 2010-12 Tundra with around 50-70k miles at the time was still only $7000-ish cheaper than the new truck and new got better interest rates, full warranty, and 25k free services. Used didnt make sense there due to resale value the truck held.
I've got about 28k miles on my Tundra now, it's been a good rig. Nothing particularly special or outstanding about it, but no mechanical issues at all in that time. I'll take reliability and resale value over all the new bells and whistles and higher price of the Domestic trucks.

    Lotsa shit.
Buy the 5.0 f150 it is the most underrated f150 engine and one of the most bulletproof engines ford has ever made. Its actually cheaper than the ecoboosts. also if you are buying a 2017, who the f*** wants a 10 speed 6 cylinder to tow with? just less work for a v8 in the end. or a tundra, up to you:thumbsup:

I agree with a 10 speed. That damn thing will always be searching for the right gear

Like? In my mind there is no comparison. The ecoboost wins at mileage and power. So nice to drive.

I've only known two people to enact the lemon law and both were F150s.

I would take the time to research the aluminum beds that ford has been using, if your one to use your bed heavily you would be very interested to see how they hold up. Otherwise I think the F150 is great truck unless you want to use it for actual truck things lol. But a lot of people do like them, and the motors are really quite nice, the ecoboost makes good power and gets great mileage.

We own a 2013 F 150 ecoboost- low 20's on the highway- 17-18 around town. Three gear sets to choose from 3:31-3.56-3:73. We have the 3:31 so only a 8800lb towing rated- I know it pulls 5K easy enough. The 3:73 tows 12,000 lbs-Our Crew cab has more than enough room for my 6' frame to relax on a long drive. Yeah we are happy with the purchase.
