Again the key is get it in writing what the techs said ... and you'll either get it fixed or driving a new one

My guess is that an upset customer with a legitimate complaint has more sway than a service dept who's responsibility is to repair it under warranty. The customer is the party who can take things further (legal action, etc.). I think the service mgr was steering you in the right direction.

That's terrible customer service if that's the case, and has never been in my several years of Toyota ownership, speaking with my service manager/advisor and how my diff replacement went, service manager is supposed to call Toyota with how to proceed with the repair, toyota authorizes/advises the repair/fix/send field rep/etc., customer calls Toyota if they want to follow up or voice concern.

Hang in there man, Im on the same path with a different issue right now, day 11 in the shop for me, with no anticipated return until possibly day 23. I too have requested a new vehicle as my issue showed up at 50 miles and it is requiring an 18 hr repair at this point. Just writing this gets me sad/angry.

WTF is going on here with these trucks! Where are those dismissive guys from the other threads about how there are only a minority with issues. Good luck to all that have problems with their brand new tacos :(

Im having an issue with a brand new highlander too. Went in for a bad wiring harness then went in for a whole new transmission. The TPMS light keeps coming on and it's making a weird noise that's not very loud but it's like a short hum that appears every couple minutes. 2700 miles on the odometer

Where was your truck made? If it is a Double Cab I'm assuming Mexico.

You should contact Toyota. The dealer will as well, but you need to be representing you. While a good service manager will represent your best interests, his interest here is conflicted. The company he works for is the one you are making the claim against. It is unwise for them to be your sole representation. But as a team, you and the service manager can have the most effect to get a positive outcome on this.

I have almost 1000 miles on my 2017 OR and so far it has been an amazing vehicle, so I think it is worth hanging in there. You are smart to buy the truck, just unlucky.

As far as customer surveys go, feel free to mention how this affects your view of the vehicle. But also mention that you want to give the dealership high marks in service as well. Ask what they can do to be sure the score you give them is the best possible. It might go further than threatening a low score. Remember, you want them on your side. Never piss off the cook.

    Jebus man, sorry to hear.

Like others said, Toyota's quality control has seemed to go off the deep end. Every few days I see on the news a new recall on a Toyota of some kind.

BlueT was right in his predictions about the demise of Toyota quality in the 3rd gen. Way before its release.... It's just sad because fan boys complained he was trolling which probably led to his banning. But the poor bastard was right all along.

These threads are very concerning and really starting to question a company that I have always been pleased with in the past. I can only imagine how angry you are, hope they give you a new truck. Good luck

Agreed, at first whistling LCAs, okay plugged the holes, no big deal. Then there was the crazy shifting transmission, okay no big deal, top off the fluid and new software update, fixed, ready to go. Zerks dry on driveline, no worries, I'll take care of it in my driveway on my brand new truck. Then there were the howling differentials, okay we are replacing the whole diff, you should be good we don't know why but should be good. Throw in the occasional CPS failure, okay replace with not bad unit. Now the last few days, leaking oil from CPS, valve covers (never seen oil leaks on any of my Tacomas) and throw in a couple transfer case issues, WTF, Toyota.

I would hope for it to sit there until the lemon law kicks in, then they have no choice but to square things up. Enjoy the rental, and if the truck is there as your payment is due, call yota corporate and discuss the fact you don't have your truck but yet you need to pay for it. If your truck is back before the lemon law time frame, then call yota daily and express your displeasure with how things have gone down, and take it to the dealer for anything and every thing, I mean even a wheel chirp, and continue to tell them you don't trust the quality of this truck.

As far as the service manager asking you to call, the was a good move on his part. Yota will hear you, but the service manager may be told to tell you something along the lines of this is normal. He took the middle man out of the picture, and I'm sure it was already documented in the computer.

Also why is it that folks feel the need to poke the "fan boys" it's like some one wants to start shit.

Holy crap! I've had mine for three weeks or so and 1k miles with no issues so far......I'm running scared and that's no lie. I hope they get it fixed right the first time and you have no issues after that.
