Basically, if Trac is off and auto lsd is on there is no engine regulation. The brakes get applied to prevent rear wheel spin.

If Trac is on then auto lsd is off. TRAC uses brakes also but not as strong. Think or it as auto lsd lite. TRAC also regulates engine power.

What you are describing is vsc. Better known as traction control. Has nothing to do with Trac, ATRAC, or auto lsd.

If you are getting stuck here is your order of operation from weakest to strongest.

    1. 2wd only
    2. 2wd Trac
    3. 2wd Auto lsd
    4. 4H only
    5. 4H Trac
    6. 4L only
    7. 4L ATRAC
    8. 4L diff lock
    9. 4L diff lock and ATRAC

When in 4-Lo, the "VSC off" light is on as well as "Trac-off". The manual says when "multi -terrain-select" is off (not operating) the "Trac-off" light is on. Is it normal for the "VSC off" light to be on in 4-Lo in addition to "Trac-off"?

I looked everywhere for that. Just got done reading a bunch. Even in the MTS section it says "if MTS off the Trac-off light will be on. I could not find what the status of VSC is in 4-lo. Why is it disabled? And in 4-Hi neither VSC nor TRAC-off are disabled. I just don't understand the logic. I would even think MTS could be useful in 4-Hi.

Bro it's one button. TRAC is always on until you press the button and turn it off. That's all there is to it.

Here's a word doc explaining the traction control modes. Crawl control isn't included as it wasn't out when this was produced in 2012. It can all be kind of confusing, so I printed a copy and put it in my glove box. When I'm heading off for some 4Xfun take it out and read it over.

That page is for clutch models which have ATRAC. Mine is auto trans. And the slip indicator is not the same icon as VSC-off. I read that earlier but it does not answer the question I had which is what is the status of VSC when in 4-lo? Another person said it was disabled and I am glad I know but I still don't see it in Owner's Manual. I appreciate you looking though. Thanks.

mpkramer71, that is an awesome write-up you provided. I have never seen the various drive systems explained so well. I copied it and saved it. I think I will print it and keepbin truck. Thanks so much.

I can't claim ownership of it, I don't know who actually put it together. I got it from another TW member some time ago.

I kind of feel like Oldman52 up there. I got to talking with my wife about all these choices and she said: "why don't you just drive until you get stuck, then keep pressing buttons until you get moving again!" I was laughing so hard I couldn't stop. I was thinking "how the hell am I going to remember all this stuff?"

Again it's very simple. If you get stuck, put it in 4wd. If that doesn't work, press the one button to turn Trac off. That's it. That's all there is to know

Is it true that the "yellow wire mod" that people did on trucks prior to 2016 is not necessary on TRD OR because multi terrain select gives you the equivalent of the prior ATRAC in addition to having 5 choices of wheelspin to select before the ABS intervention replicates the auto LSD function on both front and rear axles?
