98 Tacoma Fuse Box and Wiring

Hello everyone,

I just bought a 98 Toyota Tacoma V6 4x4 with automatic transmission two weeks ago. The truck has no power and it does not run. I already did the following things and I still could not turn on the engine yet:
1. Replace the Battery with a new one.
2. Replace the Spark Plugs and Wires with the new ones.
3. Replace the Starter with a new one.
4. Tested the gas at the gas filter and it works fine.

The cutting wires that I'm talking about them above are the underneath of the first and second pix. The rest are not cutting.

The previous owner cut and messed with the relays and wirings. So I tried to fix and connect those wirings and connected the relays back, but I'm sure I don't get them correctly. Moreover, I found out that couple wires underneath of the two Relays on the left side are cut and I know that there is only one purple Relay which is the right one only but the previous owner put another purple into it too.

In thise case, please look at my Fuse Box and Relays and then post couple pix of yours which are correctly connected here and I'll try to match to yours if you can.

Furthermore, if you have any ideas, please help me or give me some subjections on what and how to fix them.

take pictures showing the color of the wires that are cut and post them up

or go buy a wire crimp kit and rebuild those connections

at any rate it may have been an alarm system and/or engine interlock stopping
you from starting. pictures of what has been cut will help

your best bet is to pay coin at techinfo.toyota.com for 2 days access and find your
make and model and download the factory PDF manuals for all that. then rebuild it back to stock

As a general rule, model coverage begins with the 1990 model year with some information, like Technical Service Bulletins, available back to 1987.

I don't mind to pay for the techinfo.toyota.com, but before I pay for that. I called toyota dealership couple days ago and it costs me a lot. Is there anyway I can replace the whole entire Fuse Box and Wiring with the used ones?

 

oh heck yes find a junkyard tacoma or 4runner v6 same 1998-2002 year

and rip out the fusebox
and wire harness underneath it

and bring all the parts to yours. should work.

 

That bolt at the edge of the fuse box should have a + heavy gauge wire going to it. At least I think it's positive. Not sure if you took it off or it's missing.

 

About 4Runner, do I need only the 1998-2002 or the ones from 1996-1997 will work too??? Do I need to fine the ones that are look similar or exactly the same ones as mine or anyone from 4Runner 1996-2002 will work? Can you give me more detail information?

 

I never took anything off. I was like that and I don't know what to do to get them correctly. If you any of you don't mind then post the pix of your Fuse Box in here for me to match to mine, so I know how?

1998 tacoma 5vzfe and 4runner 5vzfe are basically the same thing

 

Thanks. I'll hunt for the ones from 1998-2002 then. By chance, do you have a 4Runner between those years. If you do, can you picture it and post it her for me to see it?

 

I have a 99 4runner yes but it is 350 miles away and I won't be back with it for a month...possibly longer as it may be sent to a shop to turn it into a ratrod

 

Here is a 97 4runner fuse box in my Tacoma. Looks like there are several issues. The heavy Guage white wire is missing, the 30A, 50A fuses look burnt/missing. I hate other people's hack jobs. Replace the fuse box from a wrecking yard.

 

Thank you so much for the Fuse Box picture. According to what I understand you, you use the Fuse Box from a 97 4Runner into your Tacoma and it works fine, right, and is your Fuse Box coming from a 97 4Runner V6 4x4?

I found a Fuse Box with Wiring from a 97 4Runner at a Junk Yard which an hour drives away from my home and the owner of the Junk Yard wants $100.00 for it. Is it a good price to buy? and are the electrical connectors the same or exactly?

 

100 bucks for what junkyards charge 35 bucks for, could be too much

but hey if it is complete and has all the parts, could save time

your call, just google junk yard prices for fusebox assemblies

 

Thanks for your subjection. I'll call around the junk yard about/within 1 hour drive around my town to see who has it and better price than the one I found for $100.00 and then I'll be back here to let you know.

 

I see ebay ones for 110 , so maybe the price at 100 is OK
