i went in today and test drive a 2017 off road, even though I had my heart set on tundra TRD pro. So he said I got approved for 2.9% financing on the TRD off road. However he said it was going to be higher if I wanted a pro. Wtf is that about? This is my first time buying a new vehicle. I really need advice on what to look out for and what are reasonable demands? I said I wanted the 7 year 100,000 mile power train warranty included. Anyhow any advice would help

Maybe a bank but not a credit union.
Mine offers 1.59 for a new 60 month loan.

    Never hurts to shop around.

Damn that is sick. Maybe I should open a credit union account. I might still have an account open from when I was a kid my grandma opened one for me. How about MSRP and everything on the pro? I'm getting it for MSRP and from what I've read, most dealers mark up. This one isn't.

Msrp isn't bad for a pro. If you don't buy it they won't have any problems selling it.

You're right most dealers mark them up a few thousand.

You might also be able to sit down "agree" to the higher interest rate. Once in finance threaten to walk unless they give you a better rate.

If it's the salesman that's telling you that he's full of shit. He has no idea what type of rate you will get.

It's the salesman, he says he can get me 2.9% for the TRD off road but it will be up around 5-6 for the pro. I think he wanted me to leave with the TRD off road today though but I'm not gonna settle

I would look into the credit union like the other guy said. Go there and get your pre-approval then take that back to the dealer with you.

So if TFS is offering an incentivized rate at 2.9 because that vehicle qualifies then he may be speaking correctly. With that said there are a number of very competitive rates out there and absolutely I would suggest checking around. At the end of the day tell the dealer what rate you can get and see if they match. If they do write the contract through the dealership. Credit Unions are great to compare rates, however if you write on their contract there are other things that may not be a long term beneficial to you.
    Just an additional opinion.

Yeah dude go to ur bank, there not gonna know what the hell the difference between a trd pro or off road is and won't care. I may be missing something here but you shouldn't get a different percentage based on a 5-6k price difference. Bank will give you a loan and then go back In and tell the dude u want the pro and u have the financials figured out so he doesn't need to worry about it. I ran into the same deal with my dealer, I paid cash cuz I traded in my Silverado that covered well over half the price of the car and he kept insisted that I finance and use my money more "wisely". I almost told him I don't need financial advice from a car salesman lol. They really try to get in your business but don't let em, if your getting a 2.9% deal there, you have great credit so take advantage of it at a bank. Rant over.

    WALK!

    Credit Union:thumbsup:

Once in a great while... maybe.

My Credit Union is offering 1.17% for 2014-present. They will even Refi on new cars.
The dealer gets a greater kick back if they get you to take a higher rate!
    SHOP AROUND!

Sounds good I'm going to look into it now. I'm kind of nervous to buy a new truck/finance because I've always paid cash for everything. I did finance my tires from les shcwab this last time just to build credit but a new vehicle is a big purchase. I'm rewarding myself for not knocking any girls up and I don't have any student loan debt

Any of you guys ever bought brand new?

I like the reward for not knocking any girls up haha , I bought new, I wasn't planning on it but I was only gonna save a few grand getting a used Tacoma, they hold there value like crazy, which is great for the owners, not so great for the buyers

I doubt Toyota is offering an incentivized rate on a 17 Tacoma. It's in too much demand. Go to the Toyota website, click local specials and see if it's on there. If it's not, then there isn't a special rate from Toyota. The salesman is probably trying to get you to take something in stock, instead of ordering a TRD Pro. If there is no special rate from Toyota, the brand, or trim does not matter on the rate.

I'm in the car business, and I am a member of a credit union just for low rates on cars. I don't have my checking account there. Find a good credit union in your area, and get pre-approved before you go to the dealer. That way, you don't have to play the finance manager game. Just let them know you have XYZ rate at your credit union, and unless they can match it, you will finance there. If they can match it, they probably will. My rate was 1.99% for 72 months on a 2017. If your credit score is 720 or better, you should be able to get 3% or better pretty easily.

Dealers have volume on their side. Many times, they can get a better rate than you can get on your own at a bank or credit union. They can mark up their base rate, so just because they get a better rate, it does not mean you will get that lower rate. SHOP THEM ON RATE

Like others have said, finance with a credit union. Rates are much better and they don't charge a premium for a TRD Pro.
