2 things to check that make noise around that area of dash ...
    1. Check the kick panel and make sure its not loose, look above right of floor mat and you should see a small sort of thumb screw holding the plastic kick panel .. make sure its tight
    2. Check under glovebox for any wiring harness that may be hanging there and tape it up really good, one member said he experienced noise and it was a vibration from the cover over the wires and he taped it up real tight
Just a couple ideas to check into, i myself had a vibrating buzzing sound and it was caused by #1 above with the loose kick panel

I would clean out the truck, take off the license plates and hand them the payment book.

Really sorry to hear about that. I do understand that the third gens are getting a bad rap. I thankfully haven't had any issues at all so far.

What is concerning is these issues aren't all random different issues. That would point to QC. These issues seem to be one in the same with products supplied by another company and or plant. That is the most concerning part. While it would seem easy to point the finger at Toyota, one has to wonder what is going on with the suppliers of said transfer cases, CPS, plants that assemble the motors, diff suppliers, etc. I really do not think any of this is indicative of Toyota build quality rather a Toyota supplier quality. This is what happens when you try and cut corners with vendors and buy based on price. These kinds of things should get sorted out rather quick.

Totally agree and makes a lot of sense. Just figured Toyota would make sure this wasn't the case because they're sales/reputation depend on continuing to maintain quality/reliability or at least perceived quality/reliability.

They seem more interested in building their headquarters in Plano, Texas than worrying about something silly like quality.

While I agree with most of that, I do not agree that these issues will get sorted out rather quick.

Over a year in production and some 2017 models are still coming out low on ATF, still have the howling control arms (though that is likely because a $2 set of plastic plugs per vehicle is far cheaper than a re-engineered control arm), still having shifting issues with the automatic trans, still having issues with the radio, etc.

I joined TW in July of this year because I wanted to let Toyota work out the issues of the new Tacoma before I bought one. I figured that since it had been out for over 6 months that many of the teething problems were worked out.

Threads like this one are why I still haven't bought one yet.

My current truck is 16 years old and I am ready to pull the trigger, but not until I get some confidence in Toyota.

My reluctance is not because of the issues themselves, but because Toyota and the dealers seem to simply blow off the problems that come up. Look at how many users have had their problem tagged as "Normal for the vehicle". Sorry, but that sounds like BS.

Many on here have trucks with no problems (though some of them are "Had my truck 3 days and 40 miles. No problems at all and still drives like new."), but the guys that DO have problems seem to get the royal runaround trying to get it resolved.

If I were stuck making a payment on a brand new truck and having to drive a rental Corolla everyday, I'd be a bit perturbed to say the least.

People are willing to pay the "Toyota Tax" because their vehicles are perceived as quality built and with a reputation for reliability that makes it worth spending more than for a competing brand.

Come on Toyota, step up and get a handle on this stuff before it actually does start affecting your reputation. I am ready to buy once you get your ducks in a row, but I won't wait forever.

Stories like this make me glad my truck is a lease

Good luck man I hope everything works out for you. I worked for Toyota for a while and have 3 buddies in Cali at the corporate office. Let me know if I can do anything

I hear what you're saying but major changes in supplier and even in the assembly line have a procedure. These procedures cannot just be changed over night. Toyota and suppliers have contracts similar to what you hear about the lemon law. They have to have a reasonable amount of time to fix this and that and rectify this issue and so on. Then the lawyers get involved and the next thing you know, the CPS supplier is in litigation for 3 years because a major change could bankrupt said supplier. It sucks but this is the world we live in and this is how all manufacturers treat these things.

Assembly line procedures involve risk management, lawyers again, potential staffing and shift changes. These things take a lot of time and cannot be switched overnight.

If I wanted to pay a "tax" on quality, no Japanese or American brand would earn my money. Probably one of the German guys would get my cash. I want a Tacoma because it is in the segment that I align with. 4 doors, long bed (6 foot), midsize truck. I have three options to make that purchase. GM already lost me as a customer back in 2004 because of the issues with my GTO. Nissan, that is a old ass truck. That leaves me with one option.

I think that Toyota is banking on the idea that only 1 percent of these trucks are affected. People need to understand that buyers that actually go on these forums to research these problems are very few compared to the amount of Tacoma buyers. I can't agree more than these issues need to be corrected but I think that like many other brands today, Toyota has run into some problems that they might not see as a potential problem for the truck as many of us do.

I joined Tacoma World after I purchased my 2016, not before. I haven't had any trouble with the truck yet, but I feel the same way. You should not have to cross your fingers and hold your breath every time you hit the starter button.

I had major problems with my 2016 DC SR5 7 days/700 miles after purchase and Toyota took great care of me. I was given the option of a brand new Tundra to drive while the Taco was in the shop. Turned it down due to having a company truck. The dealership had my truck for 47 days and Toyota covered my first two payments as well as threw in a couple of aftermarket products after I asked for them. Truck drives great now and have 15000 miles on it.
I stayed in constant contact with the service manager and ToyotaCare. Do not be afraid to ask them to pay for the payments that you have upcoming especially since the truck has been in the shop for longer than you had it in your possession.

Agreed, I bet a lot of these negative threads are fabricated by some people that get kicks on this shit, or even by other competitors just to stir the shit pot at an attempt to steer potential buyers to its competition. Anyone can create an account as many times as you want, and start the shit show again and again.

Just like this election, I have yet to ever meet a damn single Hilary supporter yet, and somehow the media networks make it seem this election is neck and neck. Fuck that, fake ass insider rigged shit show they are feeding us!
