I don't think there will ever be a LED bulb that can just be thrown into license plate housing. In my last vehicle (Passat), I only found success by buying a set of license plate housing that were made and manufactured with LEDs. And it was an entire replacement. Also expensive. $60 I believe. But it worked. I havent checked to see if anything like that exist for Tacomas.

Agree. It's very hard to have a cheap LED alternative in the plate housing.

I used a pair of sealed directional LEDs, and they have held up much better. You shouldn't use an omnidirectional in the tag lights, as there are no reflectors in there.
It's also a very small space and you get a lot of trapped heat. These are a CREE style 2 element with steel heat sink, so hopefully they won't cook themselves. The elements are also sealed, so hopefully no problems with moisture and vibration.

@MedlinAround question for you and I guess anybody else that's used LEDs. Have you ever had a tag light LED "burn up"? This is not a negative review about what you're selling here because I think I'm a rare case, but I was having an issue recently that my tag LEDs I put in were flickering like they were shorting out. So I took the little housing apart and noticed only a couple of LEDs were actually lighting on and off. I went to pull them out just to see if I was getting bad contact and they were hot, which caused confusion because LEDs...you know..aren't supposed to be hot. I can take a picture later, don't know why I didn't think to, but the portion of the LED assembly that plugs into the housing was dark like it had burned a little bit and I couldn't get a good connection. So I've just gone back to using my stock tag lights for now.

Again, not a negative review simply a question if this has ever happened and why it may have. My interior lights are all still perfect and look awesome.

    Thanks :)

Hope this answers your question. As you may be aware, we stopped including the plate lights in our kits and are just doing all interior lighting for now. We have had trouble with a few of the plate lights "flickering" in the plate outlets like you have stated, so we did away with them. Trying to offer a cheaper LED in the plate outlet is hard to get, because the LED needs to be fully closed for moisture and heating in the tight space that the LED is in. Like you, I myself have went back to factory over the plate lights. The interior however have been going strong for a few years now

That more than answers the question haha. I probably could have read through your thread and figured that out but you know...laziness. Haha! Thank you, and again still loving my interior lights
