So last night I installed my OME lift consisting of the following:

    2014 Tacoma Off Road
    OME 887 Coils
    OME Front & Rear Shocks
    OME Trim Packer
    OME Carrier Bearing Shim
OME / Dakar Leaf Spring Set

Took it for a quick drive and could feel something rubbing / vibrating on drivers side. Came home and found black grease slung all over the drivers side wheel well and back of the wheel. To install the front coil/shock assembly I removed the sway bar, unbolted the lower control arm / knuckle bolts and loosened the lower control arm bolts so I could swing it down. I'm not sure what I could have done to cause this. I'm going to put it up on jackstands and pull the wheel when I get home but wondering what I should be looking for?

    Thanks for any help

Who did the install? could have been pinched and damaged, something may have punctured it, could be a rock from a trail, maybe a co-worker hates you. Possibilities are endless.

edit: I see you did the install, alone? was anything braced on that part that may have damaged it?

You shouldn't have felt vibration from a new tear in the boot.

The Taco lean that the trim packer is there for is actually a body mount issue, not a suspension issue. You are probably going to keep wearing out CV boots on the L side as 887+ trim packer is over 3in of lift on the L side. I ran into problems with my 887s and a spacer for the taco lean before I figured that out.

That is super quick to wear...., but you'll contact the bump stop before you hit the sway bar.

Edit: may have happened during lift install

where you running any type of lift prior to this setup?

    no lift prior to install.

im wondering if i cut it with the end link of the sway bar rotating the it out of the way? because what i think im hearing is the grease being slung under the wheel well and i heard that almost immediately.

Yeah, you probably poked the boot with the sway bar end link during the install. Did you remove it completely during install or just let it dangle?

I did the lift last weekend and that end link kept getting caught at the boot. I was too lazy to remove it because I didnt want to remove my skid plate.

i left it dangling until i couldnt get it out of the way enough and then just unbolted it completely.

    expensive mistake!

im going to call the place doing my alignment on monday to see how much they would charge to replace the boot, whats a fair price?

    thanks

Not spacers, just better bushings.... and yes you need to replace all, the trim packer addresses the symptom, but the mounts are the real cause.

Yep. The driver side bushings are compressed more than the passenger side, giving you Taco lean. Better bushings, of uniform size on both sides, levels the truck.

This is not to say that a full tank of gas and you in the driver's seat don't affect the how the truck sits with the weak stock suspension components. That's a whole other situation resolved by adding better suspension. Just adding upgraded suspension components won't solve the lean though - you need the bushing kit.

The funny part is that I didn't install the bushings for Taco lean. I already had a spacer on my 5100s. The problem I had was that my cab was hitting my sliders when I hit bumps in the road. Only the driver's side was hitting. I installed the bushing kit as a body lift. The result was reverse Taco lean. Then I upgraded my suspension.

I love my Tacoma. They are great little trucks, as we all know. They're so over engineered though that they can be a fucking nightmare. More and more, I'm considering buying an old one ton work truck and a SAS minitruck - and selling the Taco instead of one vehicle to do it all.
