Was wondering I know Denso used to make toyota filters but do they still?

I've never been fond of paying the dealer extra for a filter that they just rebrand their own.
For instance I've never paid VW for a filter, just bought Mann filters (since Mann makes them) same with my tail lights. Could've paid 800 for VW ones that have VW embossed in the plastic inside the trunk (never seen) or just pay the 500 for the same thing made by hella without the VW stamping.

Since I just bought the taco just trying to source out parts to know what brands to look for, for same OEM quality. Unless someone can recommend a better filter to use.

ECS is terrible if you are in canada haha, and they have shit credit card security (card was compromised twice and I only used it on their site) Numerous threads on VWVortex about how they have bad security too.
once you deal with the shipping, brokerage fees and taxes it sucks.
Luckily I found a place based out of vancouver that would order from ECS and somehow got it up here without paying taxes on it. Not sure how but whatever. Saves me brokerage fees high shipping and excessive tax.

I wish there was a toyota based site though.
I wonder how the TRD ones are.

Hey buddy.. we have something in common... I have a 94 VR6 Passat in my garage, race ready!

There's a fair amount of Taco performance shops right here on TW. Just a little different than the VW crowd. Toyota builds in performance at the design phase, where VW designs for the commuter and lets AND promotes "tuner" shops to help out the enthusiasts.

That's the difference that I've seen so far.. pretty much every Taco owner is an "enthusiast". Not so with VW or even and specially Mercedes. They both are primarily SUV builders now anyways.

There's always the possibility that Toyota contracts them to build the filters to a higher spec than the manuf uses themselves. Tough to find out if there is or isn't a difference.

Anyway, I bought a filter at my local dealer yesterday since I will do my own early initial change.

It cost me $5.41 plus sales tax. IMHO I don't see an aftermarket filter, even if I knew it was 100% to spec, saving enough money to worry about.

Schrick intake, cams .. opened up heads on the top... custom exhaust, suspension, big brakes, coil overs x4, tires and wheels, custom one off chip from GIAC ...

Yeah that Corrado with the turbo is sweet.. that the 4 cyl. My Passat is the exact same thing as the 93-94 Corrado SLC with 2 more doors and not a hatch back. Right before the OBDII ... that gave us a lot of room for improv. I can pass emission inspection without a catalytic converter... but that's thanks to Garrison. 180ish HP at the wheels normally aspirated V6 .... and handling and acceleration to math.

Denso does build a lot of parts for Toyota, namely radiators and air conditioning condensers.
