But try to find a problem on this forum that's not covered under warranty. (Or that would have been covered on an extended warranty.)

Heres the thing. You can always add it later. If you end up with the problems we have you might get one for free. If you dont get it for free and still want it--buy it later.

There isn't any reason to get one upfront.

Did your original run out at 13k, if not why would it go up at 13k mile? Would it have been more at 14k?

When I bought my '04 at a Toyota dealership earlier this year, I got the 3rd party 60k mile extended powertrain warranty (since the truck only had 24k on it at the time).

In the 10k miles I've put on it so far, I've gotten the lower ball joints, 02, air/fuel and MAF sensors replaced under that warranty. I'll have to check on the price that I paid for the warranty again but I'm pretty sure it's about paid for itself, and I've still got another 25k miles on it. I was hesitant to get the warranty at first and even regretted it for awhile after, but I'm glad I went with it now.

I am against the extended warranty. I got in an argument when we bought the wifes honda. First they tell you how great and reliable they are and then when they close the deal they tell you how expensive they are to repair and you need the extended warranty.

You're the first story I've ever heard of one of those 3rd party ones ever actually being good.
I've always heard horror stories that you pay for it then they always find a way to not pay for work.
Almost like pet insurance. 9/10 they'll say its a common issue for said breed and no longer cover it. like if you have a shepherd and then when they get older they have hip problems. that insurance thing that you paid for over the last 8 years is useless because they say its a breed specific thing that they all have it so they don't cover it.

A twelve year old truck with 24k miles on it? Yeah, I'd warranty that bad boy in a heartbeat too. :D

My funcar uses 18" runflat sport tires, $400 a pop if you get a puncture since they're not supposed to be patched.

I bought the tire-and-wheel when buying the car as a certified used; written by a third party company not BMW, but recognized by every dealer I've used as well as a third party tire shop. I've yet to have a denied claim after four tires and two cracked wheels (thank you Atlanta roads) in four years; I'm FAR ahead of what I paid.

So sometimes these policies are fine, and sometimes they're a hell hole as you suggest. You have to be very cautious with who you go with.

Not sure if sarcastic or not lol, but yeah I figured the low mileage could actually work against me. Also, it's supercharged and I had no idea how hard the previous owner drove it. It threw a code on me about a month after buying it that took the techs forever to figure out, the warranty came in really handy during that time (turned out to be a hidden vacuum leak lol). I've wheeled the truck pretty hard this summer and last week noticed the ball joints were going bad, warranty replaced them without question.

Yeah I was regretting it at first because I ended up reading all these horror stories about how these warranty companies weasel their way out of coming through on repairs, but I've only been turned down by them once (my throwout bearing also went bad a few months ago, they wouldn't cover that but I didn't really expect them to since it's a wear 'n tear item).

I think for most people, 3rd party warranties are too much of a risk to be worth it but in my case I think it was an exception that's turned out to be worth the investment.

still don't get why BMW uses those run flats.
tires are so fuckin heavy. why make a 'performance car' that has heavy as fuckin wheels that are shit?
Not aware if they still have a spare? But seriously a spare would weigh less than 4 run flats.
Used to go to weekly car meets and always had BMW clubs there talked to many of them and they all said first thing they'd do is get rid of the run flats.

They didn't consult me unfortunately, and there's not really room for a spare either. They figure I guess that the 50 miles you have on a completely flat tire is enough to get you somewhere you can get it dealt with.

I will say that with the number of people who get killed changing a flat tire on the highways here, there's a value to being able to keep going and get somewhere safe. Drivers f'king with cell phones at 80mph and you have no space in the breakdown lane, and a barrier prevents you from getting well off the road.

*shrug* The car isn't perfect, there's lots of design decisions I don't agree with, but it was the best fit given my requirements and it's fun as hell. :D

Nope, I was dead serious. That low a mileage and I bet it didn't see the regular time-base maintenance annual oil changes or biannual brake fluid changes among other things. I'd also be checking the tires VERY carefully for dry rot. Sidewall blowouts at highway speed tend to get exciting.

Yeah that's what my fear was, things like that maintenance-wise and also it just sitting for long periods of time. I've had it about 7 months now and I think I've gotten any kinks worked out, other than those little things it's been a very reliable truck considering all the rock wheeling I did with it over summer (1 or 2 trips every weekend). The tires fortunately were new, K02s

Cool. Something like that can be a gem, particularly once you get the maintenance re-baselined and work out any kinks. Still worthwhile in that case to have a decent warranty just in case there's a surprise.

I got the wheel & Tire warranty too. Three months in I get a nail in my tire. So I bring it in, same thing hi performance tires/no patching, and they said no problem. They had to overnight the new tire and gave me a car in the mean time.

The service manager calls over his best tire guy, and he installs the new tire. Brings the car back and the service manager and I look at the new tire. Lord and behold what do we see.

A BIG SCRATCH ON THE RIM

When he asks the kid what happened, he said it popped out of the machine/bar came off and scratched the rim.

So bottom line; now they had to order a new rim as well. $2,600 fix.

    Ouch!

constructionworker was killed on monday here while cutting concrete on the road. all coned off and what not as awlays. driver was texting and driving and drove right into a construction zone hitting the worker doing 80km/h in a 60km zone.

Not being on the side of the road is definitely a good thing. People are stupid now days and never stop looking at their phone.

This isn't so Joe, you just need to purchase within 30 days to get the maintenance plan with it and so you don't have to pay the extra $250 if you want it later, ie if you buy at 3 years it will cost $250 more.

Not sure exactly what you mean.
Are you saying if you don't buy it within 30 days you can still get the 48month/140k KM but you don't get those 4 free oil changes etc?

I didn't ask the dealer specific I was just saying what I saw online about the gold package thing.
