the STTs are great and i've never heard anything bad about them. Good wear, great offroad ability, widely regarded in the overland community as one of the better tires.

if you go out a couple times a month i'd recommend them

OP try and get "C" load rated tires if you can.. they will be a lot lighter (20+ %) and you can thank me later. This truck doesn't need E rated tires anyways. Just sayin...

I'm really fond of toyo open country AT and nitto terra grapplers for AT type tires.

Was going towards C. Anyways What's the biggest difference in the rating on the tires. I know E's are heavier, but is that the only downside?

Bilstein 6112 front, 5100's rear with blocks, camburg UCA, 17" XD's with 285/70/17 AT 3's and a blackout front grille.
Cooper AT3's are pretty good for daily driver/occasional off road. Not really a rock crawling tire but not loud on the street and provide great traction in rain and dirt.

I have noticed in the mud the tread valley's get filled and then not able to grip very well but I stick to pavement and gravel roads so works for me.

Not sure how you can say that they are old tech when they are 5 years newer in design than the Duratracs. You do realize the KO and the KO2 are not at all the same tire? See video earlier in the thread.

Es are heavier, ride stiffer, have greater load capacity (far greater than the Tacoma can handle) and are more durable.

Stock the trucks come with P, the ratings go:
    P<C<D<E

General Grabber AT2s aren't much louder than stock, look good, cheaper than the KO2s and are supposed to be a good AT. My offroading is too minor and I'm not an expert.

BFG are actually good off road, its their on road performance that many say they are a waste unless you're a bro.

Cooper ST Maxx have great on and off road ratings.
I think it depends how much off road you'll be doing though.
If you'll just be occasionally like once every month or two off road, then something like the cooper at3 might be good enough for you.

You basically have to consider what do you want? Better on road AT or better off road AT?
Cooper ST Maxx seem to have the best ratings. They have great reviews off road, and their on road reviews are decent, better than the KO2 at least.

From what I've noticed when it comes to an AT the biggest concern on road seems to be its hydroplaning resistance.
From personal experience and many reviews the BFG are utter fucking shit as soon as the road has a little rain on it.
the AT3 have great on road reviews and from what I've heard pretty decent off road.
For what its worth, I just ordered a set of ST Maxx today when I was picking up my snow tires for my Jetta.

    FWIW,
I have several years experience working in a tire shop, and have run tons of different types of tires on all manner of DD and strictly offroad trucks. By a large margin my favorite and most dependable tire has been a Toyo A/T, I have both the original A/T and A/T II's on 2 different trucks. My Taco is currently running a 265/75r16 E rated, in the original pattern. They are pricey, but with a 65k tread life warranty and road hazard protection, I have no worries. No chunking, no bubbles, no separation, quiet on the highway, hold a good bead at low psi, and I drive the bejebus out of them on a mixed dirt/highway 110mi commute every day.

I had general Grabber AT2s and they were awesome. Would run them again.

I'd also recommend Cooper Discoverer Maxx. They're like a hybrid between an AT and a MT, but SUPER quiet. They also perform phenomenally. The only downside is they're a bit heavier due to their beefy-as-fuck sidewall (technical term) but that also means you have a beefy-as-fuck sidewall (again, that's the technical term)
