I've decided on a lift setup... Does anyone see a problem?

I am planning to order the parts for my lift/tire setup within the next 2 weeks. I want to make sure that no one has had any problems with this setup before.

I am ordering the lift parts from wheelersoffroad :

What springs are you going to run up front?

 

Im gonna run the stock springs with the 5100s set at 2.5. I know it will ride stiff.. But I won't mind since im on a budget and i actually prefer a stiffer ride.

 

That could be rough! Many people here got with Old Man Emu springs, depending on your cab. I have an access cab and am running 884's. For a few extra bucks, you might want to consider it while you have everything apart anyway.

Ive heard that. But i think ill be fine cause my brother ran a similar setup with stock coils. Plus, I'm not planning on doing crazy offroading, just state roads and a few backroads and farm roads. Maybe a few trails.

 

I'm sure down the road you'll end up changing the coils out for new ones. Depending on how many miles the stock springs already have. It's just a matter of time. But good luck!

 

That's what i was thinking too but i just wanna get the base down while i have the money since I've been busy with school.

If I'm awake and did the math right, I think this is a similar kit to what you're wanting and you can add on the Toytec AAL and it ends up a little bit cheaper.

I put brand new toyota dealer TRD coils on a set of 5100's set at 1.25...
I actually ended up with about 2-2 1/4 inches of lift over what it sat at before (very worn) and the ride is not bad but it is a little stiff.
I personally prefer it to the stock ride overall. it handles better on a twisty road and is -oddly- slightly smoother on gravel.
the drawback; it does seem to get fairly choppy on the freeway at 65mph on up compared to stock.

 

also it may be worth considering these as opposed to the standard 5100's with the rear lift... they are a hair longer than the 5100's and iirc valved the same.
from what I have heard they are the more suitable pick for a truck running a small rear lift like the add a leaf you are looking at

 

Ive looked at those before but most people say to just stick with the 5100s cause they are more basic and the 5125s can get confusing (i guess with the different lengths but idk)

 

thats why I linked the set that wheelers has already figured out works well instead of bilstiens chart. lol! bottom line; they will both work the same...but even on stock height the shocks are borderline on length.

 

I've had the 5100's on the rear of my truck w/ a 1.5" AAL for a little over 3 years. I've changed my front set up going on my 3rd time now but kept the rear of the truck the same w/ the 5100's I got, which were from ToyTec.com w/ the 1.5" AAL in a rear. It was a seperate rear set up that ToyTec offered at the time. I had a 3" spacer lift 1st, w/ Camburg uppers, ditched that for the Bilstein/ Eibach 3" coil combo and now the Icon ext. travel coil overs. A lot of people said to get that extra travel that the 5125's offered and to get longer rear brake lines also. I never did and my rear shocks are holding up great. Just something to think about. Every application is different.

 

Anybody take their sway bar off? I still have mine on. It's the elephant in the room. Everybody I ask says they came on the truck for a reason. I wonder if it would benefit me w/ Icon ext travels and Camburg uppers? Or if that would be too much?

 

I took off my sway bar back in '04
once I upgraded the front to 2.5" adj. CO's
and have never looked back or thought of reinstalling.

Body sway is minimal at most
when a supportive suspension is installed.

Only reason I'd leave it on...
is if I were still utilizing the factory soft suspension
and it were a designated street queen that is rarily run off road.

While having a sway bar may let you run flatter at high speed (useless for an off road 4X)
they are restrictive to the suspension's articulation when flexing off road.
And forward traction is only good if the tires are on the ground.

Basically the same reason why torsion bar suspensions are no longer popular off road.
Torsion bars and sway bars hamper off road articulation and traction.

 

Torsion bar comparison isnt really right but yea. No sway bar is the way to go with aftermarket suspension.
